ROTFLOL!!!

In our neck of the woods you can hardly spit without hitting an oak tree. Maybe I should start exporting them somewhere besides my fireplace /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the link and laugh…

Oh yeah, I can hardly resist wasting any opportunity to post another picture. Here were clearing a little space for our garden – see attachment.

I got several big ones taken down and hauled away for $300.00. I didn't want to tear up my equipment so I rented a backhoe for the weekend.

Taking it down.

Hauling it off.

John,
Was talking with the man doing some dozing at our farm today. He told me the same the you are saying. NO tap roots on oaks. He then qualified it. Somewhere near the 10 inch area they loose the central tap root. Stumps in my woods for larger oak trees have no tap root underneath. but the 2 inch caliper trees have a large tap root. So I must admit. In many cases you are right. I have never moved really large oak trees. Maybe 6 inch would be the largest and tap roots have always been a pain, but from what I can learn from other experts, you are right about larger trees

That’s a red oak. We have mainly red with a few post and white. We also have pine, hickory, walnut and ash.

Attached is what a white oak looks like.

$300.00 for the weekend. Actually it is $300.00 for one day or 8hrs. I rent it on Saturday morning and since the store closes at noon on Saturday and is not open on Sunday I get two days rental or 8hrs. They come pick it up Monday morning.

It sure made hauling them off easier.

Cool. I know the water oaks and live oaks we have around here have no tap, but I could see that others may. From the white oak pic that Fungus posted, I see they look very similar to the stumps I've done here. The water oaks tend to rot from the inside, and then a wind comes along, like the recent hurricanes we had, and what looks like a healthy tree is lying on top or your house!
I've removed Oaks that were 5 feet across, and didn't have as much trouble as a two foot pine stump! Love no taps! John
