Moving Heavy Rocks

Here is an interesting solution to moving a rock too big to handle.
Demolition Agent Dexpan, Dexpan Non Explosive Demolition Agent, Dexpan Silent Demolition, Dexpan Controlled Demolition Agent for Non Explosive Demolition
All you have to do is drill a hole or two in the rock. Mix some of this material called Dexpan, pour it in the holes and wait a little while. The rock breaks into managable pieces to be hauled away. Easy as that... no boom or flying debris.

I am able to move some decent size rocks with the FEL on my JD 855. I think that is similar in size to your tractor. I don't lift them. Rather, I roll them. This doesn't work well going uphill or with flat rocks. The closer the rock is to round, the bigger of a rock I can move. Sometimes I can just lift an edge of the rock and then push it. I go slow though in case the rock catches on something. Stone boat with a car hood seems like a good idea, but I haven't got around to picking up a scrap hood. You need to use restraint with FEL though. There is a learning curve, and it doesn't take me long now to realize if a particular rock is just too big. I know when to quit instead of just beating up the tractor.

I ran into this situation yesterday.....today a co-worker mentions he digs a bigger hole beside it and burys the rock.....found this on youtube....YouTube - Learning how to use a backhoe- Part 2 may have to do this next time....:confused2:

Great idea...until you find out that there are even bigger rocks buried around it Around here, the rocks gather in family groups, LOL.

Good idea, but that only works in certain areas. Around here it hasn't frozen that good since 1976. We end up with the tractor breaking through the crust to sloppy mud if the ground freezes at all.

I have 2 very large rocks to move to another location on my property.

They are about 3ft long X 2ft X 30 inches.

I will be trying to move them with my BX24.

I believe they are to heavy to put in bucket and lift.

Would any of you have any other suggestions how best to move them.

They are on the grass and not sunk in very much.

Those aren't big rocks. I'd grab them with my backhoe and drive away with them. If I tip over backwards, so what - I just ride the wheelie and steer with my brakes - do it all the time and makes for great pictures.

You're machine is probably too small to carry those rocks, so just roll them. Stuff your bucket under the front of the rock, then lift, curl, and drive as necessary. No problem.

Using the 3 point to lift and drag the rock can flip the tractor over backwards. The ROPS would stop it from fully flipping but that rock would end up where your back, neck and head should be. I would not try it.

no it woudnt. the tractor should not be able to pick up enough to make it flip over backwards. i can max out my TPH and the front end is not "floaty", much less ready to flip over. also, even if the tractor did stand up on the rear tires, it will stop tipping as soon as the load hits the ground.

Its the torque to the rear wheels does it.
