Moving to the Farm

Maybe God is an Ohio State fan?

I would think about putting a bit of a swale running between the house and barn, since it looks like that is where the drainage has to be. Line it with some rip-rap. That would give you the depth needed to slope water away from the house steps and sidewalk, plus end the erosion problems. You could put a little foot path bridge over the swale. The toads and turtles will appreciate the shady damp spot.

If you lay down filter fabric before the rip-rap, it will keep the grass and weeds out somewhat. You will still have some routine string trimmer work to do along the edge of the swale.

In the summer that water by your steps dries up. In late fall and winter you may have an mini ice rink in front of your house if you don't get it to drain better.

Looking good! Nice pasture.

Do you plan on cutting hay, or is it just for graze? That is some fine grass you have there.

Dave,
I have been working on a swale, but not to the degree you are talking. We will see what we end up with.

Larro,
Graze. We had a guy take hay off it last year when hay was so expensive just to get it cut down, but no one wants to hay for anyone else around here. My brother I law would like to get haying equipment son if that happens maybe we would bale it. In the future I plan to fence most of it for pasture.

Looks good. I had to do that in the dog yard.

Welding,
I will keep an eye on it, I had thought about wire, but the zip ties are exterior rated so we will see how long they last. I do agree that they are probably a temporary solution.

Oh, and we finally got our final c of o. Had I not called the county, I am not sure they would have ever asked me about it. But it's nice to have.
