I finally got a tree that had fallen over my path pulled up to where I could work on it. The boys helped me process some more wood too.

Looks good. You said in your write up that you wanted it in three studs but a hook was in the way. Can you get some long screws to match the hooks? If so just replace the short ones with longer ones.

Great idea. I may see if I can find some. I am sure it is more than adequate the way it is now, but I try to overbuild whenever possible. Thanks for the tip.

I had a thought about the quail water. Would a coffee cup heater under their water dish make it too hot? {Maybe put it on a timer?} I see them at thrift shops all the time for a buck. Also when I was in the Navy we used the heating elements from coffee pots to make water heaters. Those can also be found cheap in thrift stores.

I made a water heater using a lamp kit. I took a cookie tin, drilled a hole in the side and am using a 100 watt light bulb to keep the tin warm and thus the water warm. Working so far.
