Mow along the highway

I mow mine once a week. It's just like a 50 ft extension to my lot. the township has never mowed.

A regular mowing bimonthly will keep it looking nice and easier to find the "trash". I wouldn't hesistate to mow more often then county does. I find that when I do it, the county would skip my area and go to the next. Quite often there are no ugly tree stumps, damage to a trees you want to keep, etc. when you mow it yourself resulting in much prettier property.

know i'm going against the flow here, but....my observation is that too many homeowners are compulsive in getting that close mowed look from doorstep to blacktop....and put themselves and drivers at risk in the process. the worst are rider lawnmowers shooting a trail of grass onto the highway while putting themselves half way out into the shoulder....but then again, guess i never really was a suburban guy that had to have that squeaky clean look for my lawn....what's really gained, what's at risk? bb

I can only speak for myself, but my yard ends at the roadway with no ditch on the side where my house is and continues for about a quarter of a mile down to another entry gate and keeping it mowed improves the look of my property and seems to help my wife's allergies.

My mowers all have hazard flashers and are big enough to not have to get in the roadway.

I live on 300+ acres, so I am not really a suburban kind of guy either, but I don't really see anything wrong with it.

Like I said, most of the farmers do it in my area not only for the improved look, but to cut down on weed propagation.

getting OT a bit since I don't think it applies to present company, but...

No kidding... can't stand these clowns.
At our old place, I had to mow along a busy street/drainage ditch, but I at least had the courtesy to stop whenever a car passed. I didn't want the damage to someone else's vehicle to even be on my conscience.

Most of them don't care however, and I've been pelted with junk. That's about the time you'd like to have a spud gun full of stones and broken glass to answer back with... game on.

judging from the amt. of time u have for the forum and from the description of your equip., I'm sure you do a good (and safe) job.....i'm talking about the movers who cause me to swerve across the yellow line a few times a week on a 2 land highway for the sake cosmetics and keeping up w/the neighbors....that's the mentality i have problems with, risking others for one's own agenda...and it happens a lot ....happy mowing bb

Yep,my land also neighbor which connects, but the other side of road doesn't look so good.

I found its better to walk/look before cutting..bag of empty beer bottles sure makes a mess. :(

Yes, I have 2 friends that got hit by a passing car on their lawn mowers doing just we are talking about. Both are lucky to be alive today. Ken Sweet

I can certainly understand that. I am fortunate to live in a rural area where most have familiarity with equipment and also take pride in their property. On my county road the yards really go right up to the pavement and it isn't practical to not mow.

Farm equipment is so commonplace as to be just another fact of life and if it is not mowing it is pulling a grain cart, spray rig, cultivator, planter or something.

Of course I am retired and things that use to bother me don't anymore. Retired people with no where to go and nothing to do when they get there use to really burn me up, but not so much now:)

I bush hog the sides of my looong drive but I know what is there. I do it so trees dont grow where I have to put my snow banks when I plow. No way would I dare to mow along the town road when the grasss is 2 feet tall. There is an unbelievable amount of stuff there, and I dont mean bottles and cans. How about rocks, logs, fence wire, metal fence poles and street signs, tires, rims, almost anything you can think of. I even found a dead pig once.
