I just bought a used 3204 (80 hrs @$2500 /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif), and am having difficulty adjusting the mower deck height . The knob is difficult to turn. Should the deck be in a raised position when adjusting? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't say what deck you have but yes, the deck should be raised and the knob has to be pulled out (or was it pushed in?) to turn. If it's just binding a little WD-40 might help. If it has the front pivoting wheels, the height must be adjusted on them also.

I have a 54" deck on a cub 3205 and you pull out on the knob.

Thanks for the replies. The deck is riding on the wheels. Therefore, if I am to try to lower it more, must I move the "castors" up, and if so do I move up the front or the rear or both sets? It is a 44" deck, if that helps.

Both sets of wheels will need to be adjusted I think although this deck is different than the 54".

I'm not familiar with the 44 inch deck but on the 54 inch the knob adjusts the rear heighth and the front wheels are pinned in different holes to match the rear height.

How do you make the side to side (horizontal) adjustment? I don't use any of the wheels, my ground is too bumpy for that. I lift it all the way with the hydraulics, but could use a tip on the horizontal adjustment.

I misunderstood and thought you were trying to adjust the wheel/roller height for ground-following mowing. If you don't use the wheels then the height is adjusted with the knob on the tractor, of course. By horizontal adjustment I assume you mean the side to side levelling adjustment (setting the blade height on the right to equal the height on the left). There is an adjustable nut on the left side lift link underneath the tractor. You can turn the nut clockwise to raise the left side of the deck or counter-clockwise to lower it. Do it on a level surface like a concrete driveway and measure from the outer blade tips to the concrete.

Thanks Bob, that's exactly what I was looking for. However, I hope the originator of this thread (areyda) gets the information he needs ... though I think he did.

Thanks again,
Mike
