Mower Deck cleaning

Not that I have a before to compare to, but I put EZ Slide on my new LandPride 72" mower before I used it for the first time. Compared to what my old Ariens would do, I don't see any improvement and will not do it again.

Hi,

After reading and rereading this thread, I concluded that I will just clean my rotaryr cutter and mmm decks when I feel like it.

The time I save over the next decade or so will pay for new cutters at that time...

Time is money...or even more so, time is time...I would rather be doing something I enjoy better than cleaning the underside of a mower...not that I don't enjoy such things...but...

I stopped at TSC tonight on another matter and happened to see some EZ Slide there and asked about it for mower decks. I was told in no uncertain terms it is not made for that. In fact, it is to be a lubricant between metals like adjustable width forks on a fork truck. They showed me the advantage of EZ Slide in that application and it worked quite well. As a mower deck spray, not so much, I'm afraid. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I purchased slip plate and it does recomend it for under mower decks right on the label. I cleaned my deck off and then put a good primer on it. Let it dry for a few days and then sprayed the slip plate on. I used the spray can but was told the brush on would give a thicker layer and do a better job. Even so after two mowings my deck was pretty full of grass underneath. When taking the pressure cleaner to clean the grass off it did come off pretty easy in areas but I still had areas where it took the slip plate off and the primer paint. So all in all I might this winter sand blast everything off the bottom of my mower and put a good couple coats of primer on it and then maybe try brushing on the slip plate. I just don't like the paint coming off with the grass but maybe that is just the nature of the beast.

I leave my Land Pride 1560 out in the pasture during the summer. I power wash it then cover the gear box with a hard hat and park it under a douglas fir for the winter.
During the summer, my First Choice roto tiller stays in the climate controlled garage. I power wash and dry it before it goes next to my Kubota.
In the winter I will take my JD 318 and the FC 'tiller to work and park them next to boss man's 745. Kubota will stay in his hanger.
Never a rust problem here.

OK, here's my follow up. I didn't get around to doing anything more with it last year, but better late than never!

I put EZ Slide (TSC doesn't sell Slip Plate any more, but have a product called EZ Slide that comes in green and white can that looks a lot like the Slip Plate can, so I think it's the same stuff with a different name) on the LandPride 6' mower a couple weeks ago. I tipped the mower up so the deck was vertical, pressure washed it, wire brushed it (using a wire brush on an angle grinder), then brushed on 3 coats of Slip Plate/EZ Slide. I let it sit for a week to dry. The Slip Plate/EZ Slide started coming off within 2 hours of use and the grass buildup was less than before, but not a big difference. Now I spray it with WD40 (don't use the small cans, get a gallon and one of their pump sprayers and it will be much cheaper) and it works better than the Slip Plate/EZ Slide and is much cheaper and faster and a lot less work.

I've had great luck with epoxy spray paint.. ( like for appliances ).. good gloss.. excelent resistance to water and scratching.. usually lasts over a season.
