In a previous thread, I sought advice concerning the interface between the height control knob and the anti-scalp wheels on a 62" MMM for a 2210. The replies were very helpful. However, it appears there is something wrong with the height control mechanism. The deck will not lock in place. No matter on what number the height control knob is set, when released, the deck goes all the way down. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this and how to correct it? Does anyone have a schematic or photo that shows what the mechanism should look like? My local JD dealer says it is probably a loose bracket, but that's all the information I could get without having them pick up the tractor to repair the problem. As it was, for my first mowing, because the grass was starting to "get away" from me, I had to mow with the deck suspended via the 3-point mechanism. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

This has been very common with the 2210 and 62C deck.
What it comes down to, is when the deck is installed at the dealer, they are just putting everything together without doing any adjustments. There were many discussions on this when the 2210 first came out.

My answer to this, was to do the adjustment procedure myself.

In the mower deck operator's manual (OMLVU14333 A3)(Mowers Decks for 2210 Tractors 54C and 62C) that came with my deck, a detailed instruction is given for the adjustment of the mower lift mechanism on page 6 Titled "Adjust Lift Arms".

It's not a very complicated procedure, but takes a little time and patience to get it just right. Once that adjustment is done, your height adjustment know should spin 360deg, and also, the height that the knob points to is the correct height of the cut. And, when all done, you deck will lock up properly.

When you describe a 360 degree rotation, is that point to point or continuous? Right now, it is certainly not close to 360, so your diagnosis is probably correct. When I finish making the adjustments called for on page 6, should the knob turn and stop or turn continuously? Thanks.

According to the manual, it should spin 360 deg., but mine does not. After playing with the adjustments for a while, I got the knob to be able to turn almost to the lock position on the label, but it does in fact lock the deck up properly.
When I did my initial adjustments, I did it with the deck off. Play close attention to the arm where the adjustable deck hangers attach - make sure that that arm does not go up against the frame or you will bend the linkage (make small adjustments at a time). After getting everything close, and you install your deck again, the weight of the deck will make a small difference where that arm comes close to the frame.

You are just rotating a small disk with different level detents on it--those equate to the different depths of cut. You cannot turn the knob all the way around--just point to point.

Thanks for all the feedback. Very helpful. I was able to (a) get the deck leveled and (b) raise the lift height sufficiently by following the suggestions from others. I really appreciate the assistance!
