At least with my Cub Cadet 982 I have 3 engine choices, 2 Honda and a Kohler. The Honda's are less by a bit too.

What I got was a Kohler 25hp (CH740-3117) that is direct hook up like my current engine. The re-power engines that were shown in the previous replies also included wiring harness and drive shaft connection. The Kohler engine I got will use current harness and adapters from my old engine. Price was still little under 3k but will be able to mount it without any modifications. Could have gotten Kohler engine for $1900.00, but would have to get new drive shaft adapter plus who knows what else will be needed to make it work. Did not need the headache trying to make something work.
