I really didn't even think about it when I read your post. Ofcourse where I am the grass grows almost year round. I have already mowed once this year and I'll need to again soon! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Canton, Ohio is my 2nd home.
My Dad had 5 brothers and sisters. Three of them moved from here to Canton, Ohio back in the 1930's. Another brother moved to Mt. Carmel, IL back then, but his oldest brother stayed in this area like my Dad did. I am only related to one family of Brown's here, but am related to 3 families in the Canton area.
A lot of people migrated from WV to northern Ohio like this back then also.
Is this how you came to have relatives in Parkersburg, WV?

I still gotta ask ... "northwest of what?" ... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Your "northwest territory" tag made my think canada ... mowing THERE in feburary would be a HUGE wow!

So, what made the settlers be "organized" ??? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Let's go back to 1787 in our history class!
These were Federal Lands created (stolen from Native Americans?) by the Northwest Ordinance of 1787.
At the time, the was the Northwestern most portion of the United States!
Please note the yellow shaded area in the map below...
northwest_small.jpg

Marietta Ohio was the first city created in the Northwest Territory, founded in 1788.
