Mowing before Easter?

Gosh, you northerners are lucky. I've mowed our yard 9 times so far this year and it was seriously in need of mowing each time. I used the bagger yesterday and filled 3 big contractor bags with the clippings.

And the oddest thing is that I've used no fertilizer, no weed killer, and no insecticides so far this year, and the yard looks better than it has anytime since we bought this place about six and a half years ago.

With the pleasant temperatures and more than usual rain, the highway rights-of-way are also in dire need to mowing; some places have grass & weeds more than waist high. But they can't mow until the bluebonnets are through blooming and right now they're beautiful.

I mowed the next door neighbor's yard today, then pulled the blade off the mower and sharpened it a bit.

I caved. Mounted the 62c up, test run on concrete to check belt/bearings, adjusted tire pressures, leveled deck... Very close now... it rained all morning and the grass is pretty wet, the sun is out now but windy as a hurricane.. maybe later... I did start up and use the push mower a little bit so I can SAY I mowed before Easter even if I don't end up mowing with the green and yellow...

I know what you mean. I planted seed in early March with those temp spikes we had and watered with the sprinkler. Thought the neighbors were going to put me on a 5150 (72 hr psych hold). Now the established grass is grown wild because all the sunlight through the trees with no leaves and the seed is about an inch and a half. I think small animals could live in some areas and not be noticed but I do not want to tear out seedlings. Just think what the neighbors are thinking now not knowing I seeded and they have all cut at least once.:confused2:

I just installed an planted a new lawn last week. I figure if its going to be this warm mine as well get a start on it. The trees are already flowering and we'll have leaves within a week I suspect, much earlier than normal.

Hey me-got-a-tractor, just wait until those clouds move on and the sun gets to that well watered lawn that is establishing a great root system. Your green and yellow will be pretty green.

Actually, we're still in drought. I didn't mow only because of a cold hurricane wind. Boy it's been windy this winter. the rain that fell Saturday morning barely got anything wet and was more or less like a heavy dew. Not in any hurry to mow, it's sooooooooooooo dry (how dry is it?) sooo dry if it doesn't rain like an inch or more soon I may only have to mow once this year.... REd flag warnings and burn bans in effect.
my grass was getting to be 6 inches or more in places where there used to be 9 years ago horse shacks and manure buried in places. in those areas the grass grows well no matter how dry.

I guess I never really thought much about the land of lakes in the Great Lakes region as being dry.

Lower Michigan is plenty moist. Snow in the air today, but I caved and mowed last weekend for the first time this year. The 80 degree weather we had in March had the grass close to ankle high already.

I love the early heat. I expanded the rasberry patch a couple weeks ago, and I am hoping to start some carrots and peas out in the garden this week.

Bizarre. I've never in my life mowed lawn before Easter here in Minnesota, it's unheard of! I breifly considered mounting up my 62c on the 2210 today but since we seem to still be in drought it's probably best to just leave it alone. Crazy weather! I could mow, it's thick in places. Fuel prices are so high I don't want to start any sooner than I have to.

Mowed my lawn three times so far this season. Just got finished mowing 1/4 mile of ditch and 1/4 mile of fence line with my string mower for the second time this year.
