How many sq. ft. per hour can a B3030 cut with a high quality rear finish mower, say a 72" woods? Normal cutting conditions, 4" grass, open athletic feilds. Just looking for approximates her'e. Thankx Scott.

You didn't give a forward speed, so I'll assume one for you. You can adjust by multiplying this number by the ratio of your actual speed to 6mph.

6 ft wide x 6 mph = 4.3 acres/hour

If you only go 5mph, multiply 4.3 by 5/6.
If you go 7 mph, multiply 4.3 by 7/6.

That's with no turning, etc. You can probably figure on about half that.

edit: Oops, you asked for square feet: 190,080 sq. ft.

doing some "edumacated guesstimating" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif here's some math:

72" wide = 6 feet
1 mile = 5280 feet

1 "mowed mile" = 31,680 ft^2 (~ 0.73 acres)

soooooooo.....

I looked on the 'Bota website - B3030 listed "top speed" at 12.1 mph (3 range). By posts I've seen here - most folks seem to prefer mowing in "MID range" (I have 2 ranges - mow in HI) - so lets *assume* top speed in MID is 8 mph...

8 "mowed miles" = 253,440 ft^2 (~ 5.82 acres)

************************

If you are truly going to mow "playing fields" (ex soccer / football) - then this may be possible.

I'd say a more conservative estaimate - mowing at 1/2 top speed: 6 mph - this gives you:

6 "mowed miles" = 190,080 ft^2 (~ 4.36 acres)

*************************

For comparison - I mow @ 2 acres (@ 43,560 ft^2 / acre = 87,120 ft^2) in @ 1 hour - and I have a 54" (4.5 ft) wide MMM (so my "mowed mile" = 23,760 ft^2)

So by my calculations I should be averaging:

(87,120 ft^2) / (23,760 ft^2/ 1 mph) = 3.66 mph

That seems about right for my *average speed* - my lawns are not equally smooth - and I need to go slow around rocks - or through bumpy sections. I know I can zip along @ 5 - 7 mph in the smooth flat sections.

Hope that helps,

Dan

dang! I was "composing" while you were "posting" - I did my own math though! (I didn't peek - honest! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif ) Glad we came up with the same number!

Always two ways to skin a cat.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
