Depends on type of grass, how thick, how tall, etc. 3043 rpm's is the official book answer. I personally mow my horse pastures between 3000-3100 rpm's.

I don't have a tach on my BX23, so I mow at WOT...Works great and really doesn't use much fuel at all.

I use 2800-3000 on my 2360. Also, mine reads 3400 not 3200 when wide open. There is another informative thread not too old debating the use of WOT or not.

I keep the blades sharp and the lawn is in very good shape...I just run it wide open...Helps throw the grass and has no ill effects...Been doing it for 7 years on 2+ acres of lawn....I wouldn't use the MMM on a field....
Suppose I could wind it back, but I really don't see a reason. If I remember correctly, the manual recommends WOT on my model when mowing. I don't do that when using the BH, I adjust the RPM's to the need.

There are at least two other threads not too old on this, I ran my 2200 WOT and my 2660 at about 3000, they are designed for high RPM and see no reason to cut back from manual recommendations.

What these fellows said, plus closer to WOT will lead to better battery longevity for some folks, and keep the transmission a bit cooler in my opinion.
Sometimes, in conditions where rabbit speed would be appropriate, I opt for turtle, with WOT, and foot pedal to the floor. I do this because it is not that often I get to put the pedal to the floor, so I wonder about the piston bores in the axial piston pump. Edit...I forget to do this in reverse, so I ought to remember now, since I wrote it, and said it out loud too.*
Tell your kids a good learning technique is to think it, write it, and say it. Do that before bedtime the day before the test.

Good idea. Same pistions used tho, so unless you do a tremendous proportion of backing, just exercising in forward oughta do it. ... Not sure how much issue the different side thrust is.

Larry, in reverse, do you know right off if the pistons stroke a slightly different section of bore? I thought they do but I need to get another cup of coffee and think about it more.
Edit: Coffee was good. Thinking about it, forward swash plate angle is far greater than reverse, so reverse piston travel in reverse is contained as a subset of the forward piston stroke travel. Pressures should be different in reverse in that section of stroke than it would be in forward. It's a minor issue, but interesting.
