Mowing Speed Kubota L2501

It has been a couple of months since I posted this thread. I have learned a lot on TBN but have also learned how much more there is to learn. Since the original post was about cutting as quickly as possible here is an update.

I ended up with a 40 hp and a 72" Land Pride BH. The tractor is not a easier, more comfortable, ride than my Exmark at any significant speed. It is still very bumpy and at times much worse. The speed that I am able to travel is much lower than I anticipated so even with a much larger deck, 42" vs 72", it appears the tractor will take as long or longer to cut the property.

Of course with a tractor and BH I can cut less frequently if I choose too. Still very happy with the tractor purchase and feel it was the right choice for my needs,

My zero turn rides a lot better than my tractor mowing at higher speeds also.
Taking the loader off to mow does help some with the ride.

Of course, $$$ comes into the formula. I would go with the HP tractor that best fit my needs. Then I would match it to an appropriate sized bush hog mower. Say the specs suggest a six foot mower. I would consider getting a 7 or 8 foot mower. My logic is if the field is brush and overgrown, I would go to a lower gear in the tractor so the mower could handle it. Then if/when I mow more often, I can speed up and get the mowing done faster.

As a kid, I operated a ford tractor and six foot mower to cut pastures. You drive round and round and round and round for hours--it's tough to see any progress. And if you got to a thin area where you could speed up, the tractor beat you to death.

Are you running with the loader on. I致e been mowing with the loader on for years and I discovered by accident that it rides mulch smoother with it off.

Yes, I have been mowing with the loader on. I will try it with the mower off soon.
