For 30 some years I used a Case DC with a bush hog or sickle bar mower and was used to the sound of the engine thumping along at its 1300 RPM "red line".

When I got my B7300 and first reved it up to 2800 (540 PTO) I thought the same thing as you. . . it's gunna blow itself apart, but so far in 100 hours and a year and a half she's still screamin' away!

I never run my tractor at the suggested RPM in part because I am still in the break in period and it also hasn't seemed to need to run at that high an RPM for cutting the grass. The first time I cut the lawn I let it get very high as it was a new lawn. I was stopping every three passes to empty my bags...quite a pain. It had no problem whatsoever keeping the RPM around 2200 or 2300 rpm. Mine even sounds worse with the addition of the grass collection system. Reminds me of a multi engine aricraft.

That said, I want to second the comment on the hearing protection. I spent last Saturday out doing some fel work and grading. When I came in the house I had a persistant whistle in my ears which lasted for 2 days. Won't do that again.

I guess I'm just the opposite. I varied the RPM a lot during the first 50 hours; still do when I'm not using a PTO powered implement, but when running the PTO powered equipment (finish mower, rotary cutter, and tiller), I always run it at the PTO rated speed. And when I drive the tractor down the road occasionally, just pull the throttle wide open./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
