I was also researching the Mr Cool DIY units. Yes they are all self contained, no vacuum needed. If you are a CostCo member, they are selling the 18k BTU units for $900 bucks...can't beat the price anywhere. You have to be a member to even see the price. They are online only, free shipping to home
The best price that I have found on the 18000 BTU is about $ 1450.00, that's the DIY model. What does it cost to be a Costco member? There isn't any of them in Florida that I know of, but it might be worth joining if that deal exist's.

I have direct experience with 3 Mr Cool units. They are fantastic.

I rarely endorse specific products, but as far as Mr Cool goes, They are fantastic.

I have a 1 ton in my wife's shop, (3 years now) 110v, 15 amp. They are fantastic.

I have a 1 1/2 ton in my garage / workshop (approx 800 sq ft) 3 1/2 years, They are fantastic.

My neighbor has a 3 ton in his shop for 2 1/2 years. They are fantastic.

All are very quiet and smooth running, for the most part you have to put your hand in front of them to make sure they are running. The outside units are all wall mounted and they come with 25' long pre-charged hoses. The only connections are the 2 lines from the air handler inside as well as the control wires (one plug) and power. They are fantastic.

The outside unit and the line sets are pre-charged and have a quick connect valve system so once you make the connection and run the power, just turn it on. NO HVAC TECH NEEDED !!!! NONE !!!! They are fantastic.

Just in case you have not got the message yet """They are fantastic. """

The company I got my units from had a promotion where you record a video and post it on youtube and they would send a bit of a rebate .....

All said and done I had my 1 ton and my 1 1/2 ton delivered and installed for less than $2k.

One of my youtube videos can be seen at Press Play Rewards - Jamie - Ingram's Water and Air - YouTube

And finally, for those skeptics out there, no I do not work for Mr Cool or any of their dealers, I am just a simple old retired sailor trying to pass on a good experience I have had.

Also, they are WiFi enabled, to allow remote control from your smartphone.

They are fantastic.

That is exactly the kind of first hand information I was hoping for, I can tell you really like your's hopefully I will have the same kind of luck that you have had. Charlie.

There's a Costco at Gate Parkway and JTB in Jax.

Iirc, $50 or $60 bucks a year.

O.K. so I called Costco and got a very helpful fellow on the phone to help me , I explained to him that I was not a Costco member but they had something I wanted if the price was right I might become a member, he said he would be glad to help me and look up the member price of any item # that I wished, he told me the online price for a Costco member on Item#1241102 was $1049.00+ $49.99 shipping, which is still $300.00 cheaper than Ingram's the only thing I can see that you are not getting is the free lifetime tech support which would be great whenever it does quit and you have questions, but that's a substantial savings , but still about $200.00 more than what you saw online.

One major difference between MrCool and others like Mitsubishi is the ability to drive a number of heads/registers. If you only need heat/cooling in one place, well, it is not an issue. If you want to heat and cool several rooms or zones, it is a big difference. One mitsubishi "outside" unit can drive several "inside" units. The MrCool cannot do that.
