How old is this notice? Have over 100 shares but get notices electronically and haven't noticed anything about it. Just curious if I missed it

How do you hold the stock?

If you have the physical certificates in your name, then Ford knows about you.

Most people, myself included, who own shares of stock have a brokerage account and never really see the stock certificates. The shares are really registered in the name of the brokerage and while they show up on your statements and show in your account if you have on-line access, I am not certain how, or even if, Ford would know about the shares being owned by you.

If you want physical certificates in your name, you can get them, but there is an extra fee for that, and it takes some time. Plus, when/if you sell the stock there is another delay, since you have to send the certificates to the brokerage and they have to authenticate them before you can sell them. And, it takes five business days for stock trades to settle, so don't be expecting a check in the mail any time soon.

Check with your brokerage house, and with Ford. Possibly they will honor the plan if you just send them copies of your statements.

I am not certain this is the problem, but it is definitely a possibility to be checked into.

As an aside, here is nothing "wrong" or "underhanded" about the way brokerage houses do this, in fact it is very convenient most of the time. I can sell shares held by the brokerage in seconds with on-line trading enabled, and seconds later use the proceeds to buy shares of a different company, or even get cash transferred to my bank account. If I insisted on holding physical stock certificates registered in my name, that process would take at least a week, probably much longer.

I wish I could answer that question but the wife is a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch and she takes care of all of this. I just know a few of the stocks we have, she knows all of them. Works well this way as she gets tired of the deer in the headlights look I give when we discuss these things.

Update***

As some may know... my brother bought a property that was an old Christmas Tree farm and this is his second year selling Christmas Trees.

Yesterday, I spent the day helping out and noticed a new White F150 King Ranch from the same Dealer that had sold the one he was going to buy...

Turns out the driver was the owner and the one that bought that exact same truck my brother was going to buy... he was there with his family buying a tree.

My brother asks him how he likes the truck... the guy says he in not very happy with it and goes on to say it is always hunting for gears and he lives up in the hills and the mileage so far is no where near what was stated... close to half of advertised with 2300 miles on it.

He does like the cab and features... he does say if he puts his foot into it the power is there.

So my brother asks him if he would do it all over again and he said no... he also paid $1200 more than the price my brother had negotiated...

It really is a small world!

Definitely can be be a small world in aspects. Maybe it is just me but it seems that the owner is really putting on the miles. My Dad received his new F-150 in early May, with 400 miles (dealer is at opposite end of the state.) and now ithas a whopping 1300 miles on it... I geuss the KR was/is that guys only vehicle...

He's a contractor and spends long days estimating jobs... wanted a nice truck because it is his office...

My 1985 truck has 160k miles on it and I bought it with 50k in 1990...

With all the good things I have read about EcoBoost... this was the first negative I have heard face to face...

I realize the drive to fuel economy has changed the way vehicles operate...

We now have a 2001 Toyota Corolla and a 2011 Toyota Corolla... the 2001 has much better motor braking and holds the gear longer than the 2011... both have basically the same engine and 4 spd auto... the 2011 is bigger and quieter.

An ecoboost hunting for gears? Something is wrong or this guy is nuts. They behave quite the opposite. Mine requires a lot of pedal pressure to force a downshift. Torque is amazing.

Searching for gears is due to many vehicles now having 6 speed trannys.
