Hey guys,
I'm having problems with my starter too. Recently it stopped engaging sometimes, so I took it apart and gave it a good cleaning out and light lube which did help, but it still has the problem every few times I try to start it (Mitsubishi mt-372). To get it to engage when this happens, I "bump" the ignition until it catches and starts, which is usually only about two "bumps" but I'm sure is probably not very good for the gears.
I'd rather not dump $200 or more into a starter so I'm looking for "frugal" solutions first. My battery is a few yrs old but I don't notice a difference in cranking power from normal (I could be wrong) could a weak battery cause this Problem ? If I go with the Dodge Colt starter, I see Dan mentioned the drive gear needs to be swapped out. Does the parts store have these (what part # or what to ask for ? ) The gear on my starter looked ok when I had it apart but not sure if my "Special starting procedure" has worn it down any in the last couple of months, if it is ok would it fit the Colt starter ?
Any advise would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Patrick
