I also have a diesel Mule, the original body style (2500?) and those older models are really a rugged old pickup, that is pretty lacking in cushy long travel suspension flexibility. Heck it's got friggin 3 ply leaf springs on the rear, and traveling diagonally across a 6" log you'll lift the opposite rear tire off the ground! Great for a work truck, but it's a compromise off road. The "U" in utv seems to be what the Kawasaki engineers focused on.

Part of the problem may be that Ag tires do not make good snow tires.

Thanks. I have been busy with snow here and calling a doctors office 60 times before I could get an answer. REAL medical issues are NOT important.

I noticed ESSEX manufacturing out of TEXAS that made Mule accessories is no more. Sad. It was a GREAT company. I wanted to discuss my tires, I bought from them, with regard to chains.

I have been doing some reading. Not really much you can do for snow beyond what a certain tire size is good for. I always noticed that once you approach half the height of the tire, you are fighting a loosing battle. I understand chains can just dig you in better.

I also read something interesting. The Diff lock on my mule requires some distance for engaging. So getting stuck, and engaging it in difficult conditions is a problem. It's maybe why the owner of ESSEX once suggested that I use 2wd and diff lock as a default over 4wd and no diff lock.

GOOD NEWS today. I finally found an aftermarket oil filter for the 2510 Diesel from HI-FLOW. Part number HF129. A UK based after market company mostly for Bikes, I guess. All other filters I found were a quarter inch or too long. In Fact, I think I bashed a Car Quest filter a little flatter rather than pay Kawi $27.00 CDN. These filters are around ten bucks.

RUSTY IRON. Enjoy your old style Mule. I was super pisssed as I waited for the apparent new body style to come out and when it didn't bought the old style and then of course the new one came out. NO REGRETS though. I LOVE that the paassenger can stretch their legs out.

Well do not sit in a JD Gator 835 xuv, 3 grown men can sit comfortably side by side with plenty of leg room. :cool2: And you know how proud JD is of that green paint.

When I bought my 1996 Mule 2510, new in 1996, the only other choices were the JD 4x2 gator and 6x4 Gator. The only color choice was red, I wanted green, which came out the next year. I never liked how the steering wheel was in the the center and the pedals just to left of center, you had to drive sitting at an angle.

Or Kawasaki Mule Pro D or F series. Yamaha Viking, Can Am Defender, to name a few that sit three across. I am sure there are more.

I found the Motorcycle Speedo kind of interesting too. But I do like the Utility feel of the machine.

I am impressed every time that Diesel Starts (Daihatsu sp?) . I think it's the fatest starting Diesel, Hot or Cold, I have ever seen. Like, you can't operate the key fast enough when warm and a second or so when cold.

I was however, one of the unfortunate ones, that years and low hours down the road got caught with a broken crankshaft, as Kawasaki never actively approached owners about a recall. Original crankshaft was not designed for side loads as with a belt driven transmission.
