Does every square foot of sky in your state have some variation. A picture taken with mere seconds and held in almost exactly the same position is unlikely to reveal sky variation. There are days here in California where you could look East or West and not get variation. Rather then foggy as you suggest, I agree with Billy, that it is dust. The dry vegetation would indicate the soil is dry.
There are certainly arguments, I don't find that one valid. Snopes is actually quite good at these things, give them a try, they go into far more detail then you can imagine identifying fakes.
I'm sure you have all seen the Tsunami photos. So far everyone that I have received is a fake as determined by Snopes. They go as far as to say that the steering wheels in the cars are on the wrong side and traffic is wrong for that time of day. In other photos, they are not fakes, but they are also not the Tsunami that just happened.
