On the subject of the
L345 - L355ss, I have not personally known of likely hydraulic issues. The 3-point lift is strong, handling a heavy duty 6-ft rotary cutter with ease. The internal system is not high flow, but makes plenty of pressure. The 1720 loader was available with external hyd system - outside on right side and front pump. As these machines get older, their maintenance history becomes more important - a "hard life" can affect hydraulics more than other areas.
I've had 3 of these machines. My first L345DT was for pulling an orchard sprayer. At the time (1982) the
L345 was more tractor for the money than green or blue. Bigger rubber, power steering, 2-speed live pto. It out-performed my 8n by a mile so I had several good years with it. A 7-1/2 foot rear finish mower needed more power, so I eventually went up to an
L4150 with hydraulic shuttle.
But the
L345 had been so good for so many things I later got another one to use as a second machine. This one didn't have a loader so I
added one. The
L345 is mostly used with a sickle bar, post hole digger, spreader, etc.
Along the way, a low-hour L355ss showed up on Craigslist. Knowing how handy a shuttle is, I got it for comparison. The L355ss pto is not 2-speed so the
L345 narrowly wins out in overall utility. A friend needed a tractor so he now owns the L355ss. It's been a great machine for his jobs. No hydraulic issues except normal packing seepage on the loader.
I'm happy to answer any questions I can - I've changed clutches, replaced broken pto gears (operator's fault) etc.
Take care, Dick B
