Hi everyone,

Our acreage and woods has a lot of a "weed" called multiflora rose. It is an extremely thorny bush considered to be a weed and very tenacios. It is easy now to mow down out in the field after I rented a brush hog, but I can't really get to it down in my wooded areas. It makes a walk in the woods a bloody endeavor. Does anyone know how to kill these big bushes w/o the tractor and brush hog?

Leef- You might want to check out this thread here where I posed a similar question. Many thanks to CowboyDoc for the tip!

As a follow-up to that thread here's what I did. In early spring I cut the pasture I want to mantain that had lots of huge multiflora rose bushes. About two weeks ago I walked around this pasture and some new trails I cut with a 3 gal. sprayer full of Crossbow herbicide (6 oz. in 3 gal. water). The roses had new growth about 6"-18" high. I sprayed everyone I could find and a few large bushes that I couldn't get to with the tractor due to trees that I didn't want to disturb. The results have been amazing so far! The new growth roses looked really bad within 24 hours and the uncut bushes followed suit after about a week. Currently, all sprayed plants look totally dead, toasted! I actually sprayed a couple weeks before the prime time which is when they just begin blooming. The ones I didn't treat are in full bloom right now. Never the less it looks like Crossbow did the trick /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. I probably missed some as the grasses and golden rod were higher than the new growth but I really like that I was able to use much less herbicide by spraying relatively small plants rather than huge bushes. Where I sprayed full grown bushes I'm happy to see that the surrounding vegetation and trees show no affect.

Leef,
Do a search on multiflora rose. Myself and a few other guys discussed how to get rid of these in a previous post. If you can't find it let me know and I'll give you some more info.
