Municipal fed cistern system?

Our tank is vented. We do not have the sulphur smell in our water, but those around us that do have found the tank alleviates it. It may depend on how the tank is vented. Chloramine may outgas with time, I know for my reef tank I have to use a carbon block designed for chloramines when on municipal water systems. It was my understanding from a chemist that it did not outgas but did change formulation.

Don't know about your's but most tanks especially plastic tanks like mine have
to be ventilated or they'll collapse from atmospheric pressure. Yes there is a filter on the air vent to keep
bugs and other critters out of the water.

Perhaps I should have said force-ventilated. Tanks are not sealed airtight or you could not get water in
there either.

We have a 3300 gallon cistern. That lasts us around five weeks for my wife, our 5 and 6 year old boys and myself. We average 70-90 gallons a day, and don't ever attempt to conserve water. We do have a dugout for yard and flower watering.

Our load station is twenty miles away, so I have always been back and forth between hauling myself and having it delivered.

The local governments are talking of doing a new regional water line. In a perfect world I would hope this meant I would get to tie my cistern onto city water. I would do that in a heartbeat if it was an option. Realistically the best I can hope for is a closer load station in a small hamlet five miles away.

given where you are, this may not be a problem, but I will mentioned it anyway. In many places, the bank will require connections to municipal utilities (if available) as a condition of a mortgage.

I would make sure to check prior to going too far down the road of having a cistern only system.
