Impressive looking grapple...do you push the trees over with the tractor, then pull them the rest of the way out with the grapple?

With trees less than about six inches that is what I do. Push first to reveal roots then uproot with the grapple and then push from different direction. The larger trees get their roots cut with a backhoe mounted ripper first and then pushed over.

Tough question as you can see by reading some of the replies. It all depends on your area and what you intentions will be. Like several have noted the tractor is a must with a Loader. I live in Maine and the added item I have used the most has been a 6" wood chipper. Here I cut trees for fire wood and making dirt bike trails so I cut the trees and chip the smaller trees and branches. I just purchased a Woods 7.5 Backhoe that I plan on making a mechanical thumb and frost pick, to pull the roots of stumps. Then I will be making a crane that is put on the dipper arm of the backhoe and connect the cylinder of the bucket to lift the arm of the crane to left items. As you can see it is to your imagination what you get and the extent you go. But most important is your BUDGET. Have to stick to a budget.

What is this "budget" you mention?

Nah, of course I have a budget. The problem is keeping my "budget" from growing every time I think of something else I want. It's hard not to see the budget with your "tractor goggles" on.

ALL are 'must haves' but.... Box blade is right up there but for the money to work ratio I'm not sure anything has touched my toothbar.

When I first got the tractor I set it up for the woods with a winch, chains, and a grapple - for what I do all must haves. I also have a mile of gravel road and lots of woods roads to maintain and bought a rear blade for that. Also a must have in my book. Last year, 10 years later, I built a grader/scraper to help with the road work. If I had only know how good those things work I would have gotten one in the very beginning.
Now I need a Top and Tilt - you see - it just never ends - what you can't live without :):)
