Then maybe the John Deere dealerships in Canada should ask reasonable prices.

I don't believe consumers in Canada should have to eat the freight charges for bringing the product up to a Canadian dealership. That should be a cost the company swallows. If you want to have a business selling equipment, it's up to you, the dealership, to bring equipment to your lot, at your expense. When there is thousands of dollars in profit on each tractor, why should I pay for the shipping too? That's the cost of doing business.

I work for a major tool store in Canada, and if we tacked shipping charges onto everything we sell, we wouldn't sell anything.

What really makes me mad is company's like John Deere, make, way too much money. Profit should be capped so that companies can't turn into greedy corporations. The quick hitch 54 inch blade setup is a good example. My dealership wants $1,650 for it. It likely costs John Deere $300 to make it. Somewhere between the factory floor and the dealership floor, it gained $1,350 in inflated value. Once again, too many middle men. Too many people trying to make a living off of my back.

JDTank,

The Blade/Quick Hitch is at Moodie Implement in Belgrade, Montana.

It is listed on MachineFinder.com in the Lawn & Garden Commercial Equipment Section. Under model number, Search for 54" Front Blade. Here is the link: 2009 John Deere 54" Front Blade Lawn & Garden and Commercial Mowing - John Deere MachineFinder

You can also find it on Moodie's website.

We have friends north of Seattle, Washington in the Burlington / Mt. Vernon area. It could be shipped there or to someone you know as well.

You will need a different mounting bracket to mount it to your tractor. The bracket that is with it is for a 2305/2210.

It is listed for $1,000. If you are interested, shoot me a PM and we can work out a price. In the meantime I'll talk to my salesman and see if I can get a quote for shipping.

I hear your frustration. I'm not looking for a cap on profits. I believe in free market. Don't blame mutton though, it's corporate. Canadian dealer sell at or above msrp while American dealers discount msrp as most other products do. In other words Canadian dealers are gouging us and deere supports them which is unethical. If I'm willing to go south buy and import it myself I should be able too. Deere is taking away the free market field, again unethical.

Don't kid yourself with a blanket statement like that. There have been lots of US buyers on here complaining their local USA JD store will not give discounts. It seems to be a regional thing.

It is JD corporate (in the US) that sets transfer pricing - in other words, dealer cost - for product sold in Canada. It is JD corporate that tells US dealers - no sales to Canada.

It's not just JD. Try calling a GM dealer in the US and asking them to ship you a new vehicle. NAFTA does not work at the retail level.

Maybe you need to do yourself a favour and check the "Build Your Own" option and then have a frank discussion with your local dealer.

CDN list prices for the blade = $567, Quick Hitch = $663 Hydraulic Angling = $205 Total = $1435

USA list prices for the blade = $515, Quick Hitch = $603 Hydraulic Angling = $186 Total = $1304

Factor in currency exchange and you have about $100 difference.

You say Mutton wants "just over $1,200 plus free shipping" That's less than a 10% discount + shipping costs. Have you factored in the cost of getting this across the Border, including HST?

At $1,650, if for the same stuff above, it seems to me it's your dealer that is the problem, not so much greedy JD corporate.

I live about 20 miles from Mutton (Fort Wayne, IN). I purchased my 2520 from them in 2008. Overall a positive experience. They've quickly taken care of any issue I had, including replacing the 3pt arms that were rubbing the tires at no cost to me.

Shipping is free, so no big deal there. I am only 40 minutes from the Washington border, and I have a place just 2 miles over the border I can ship to. Swing down, pick it up, come back 40 minutes, done deal. Even if they make me pay taxes on it when I declare it, will still come out cheaper than buying from the dealer.

Whatever happened to the good ol days where a Salesman had to haggle and earn his money. Nowadays, you want to buy anything from a Salesman, you get the BS treatment. "This is the price and there is no moving from that, it is what it is. If you want it, I will be over at my desk watching Youtube videos"

The Salesman who quoted me $1,650, I had to fight to get that price out of him. All he did was whine about how there is "nothing left in it" for him. It's a hydraulic blade, not a AG tractor with custom order options. Considering that price was me assembling the unit, it looks to me like he is making a days wages for one easy sale that requires virtually no effort on his part.

Shipping may be "free" to you, but it is factored into the cost for Mutton and becomes one of the factors in determining price / discount.

If my information is correct as posted, you still have not addressed why the local store is quoting $1,650 for something with MSRP of only $1,435. Are you quoting the CDN price GST / PST Tax Included and the US price Tax Exempt and in $US?

Did you take the "build your own" data - show the salesman and ask him for an explanation? Have you contacted any other local JD stores? Is this the same store where you bought your X740? Did you pay 15% over MSRP for that also.

If all this is so simple, and US dealers are as willing to discount as you would have us believe, why not deal with a Washington dealer? Why a store in Indiana?

Hi JDTank,

Your story remains me what happens here in France.
Here John Deere forbid any dealer to enter in competition with another.
As soon as your name has been entered in their online quoting system, Deere knows in real time what happens and any other dealer too.
I don't know Mutton except through its funny videos on You tube but as an important JD dealer they cannot obviously go against Deere.
For me the problem is not Mutton.
JD forbid them to sell to canadians, that's clear.
The problem is John Deere commercial and marketing system which is, just like Yelbike said, unethical...

If Mutton's price of $1,239 includes shipping, then why would I care? That's still basically $400 cheaper than here. My local store claims they need to sell above MSRP to make profit. They claim MSRP is basically their cost to purchase the product from John Deere. I claimed BS the second I heard that.

I paid American pricing on my X740 for multiple reasons, and it was a deal unheard of in Canada as far as I know. My 2012 X740 was the last X740 around, and one of the very last 2012 X700 series they had in stock to sell. They wanted to clear all of them out before spring, to make way for the new X700 series. My constant pressure and price comparing measures, along with John Deeres $1,000 incentive at the time, allowed me to walk away with the machine for $10,000 plus tax. In Canada, even a year ago, you would have paid about $13,500 - $14,000 for that same tractor. It was stored in an indoor warehouse showroom since it came off the truck, and had 0.2 hours on it when I signed for it, so I jumped on the deal. The salesman insisted that he basically made absolutely no money off of my sale, and was pretty grumpy when I signed the papers. That's not my fault though. As a consumer, I need the best possible price, I need the best cluck for my buck.

I spoke with the Salesman today, and the best situation we could hammer out was me buying the quick hitch and angling kit from the parts department, and buying just the 54 inch blade through him. So what it will end up costing me is:

Quick Hitch $700
Angling Kit $ 200
54'' Blade $600

With taxes this still comes out to $1,680. The original quote of $1,650 was before taxes, so I will still save a few hundred dollars going through the parts department for most of it. What kills me is I also need weights, chains, click-n-go brackets, and the rear weight bracket, to make this machine truly effective at moving material. When that is all said and done, it will cost me $2,500 before I can even move a single pile of dirt.
