MX 10 Pull Behind or hydraulics

I have no idea...I just found a pic from google to demonstrate just how useful the offset function works.

My 5105M Deere handles my 3pt hookup MX8 just fine w/o weights up front. Love it. Pain to hook up sometimes.

I would recommend getting a batwing, you can get them in ten foot models. My biggest concern with the 10' rigid deck would be roading on narrow roads and getting through gates. If you can get the batwing, you can gain five feet of cut and lose two feet of width roading it. The other reason is they just look cool, and they will give you a cleaner cut because they float more.

@jD5203 Do you have a 10ft batwing and use one?

I don't remember the price, but the 10' batwing was considerably more expensive than the rigid deck we bought. For our use the cost was just too much, but we rarely transport on road.

I do not own a batwing, but I know people who have them and love them, and a 15' batwing will be my next mower. Yes you should expect the higher price because you have more hydraulics, different setup basically requiring more parts. I looked at the ten foot rigid but our small roads, about 14' wide would mean having to stop everytime to go by a car. Also with our ground being so ungelating, I thought it would damage the machine, put more wear on the tractor, and damage the ground. If you are on flat ground, not a lot of bumps around, I would get the rigid deck, if you have terrain like mine, I would get the 10' or 15' batwing.

We have quite a bit of undulating ground on our farms and it's not been a problem with the 10'; 12' might be problematic.

15' batwings as well as 5'/6' are the most common in my area, I don't know anyone else who has a 10', odd size around here.

Rhino used to make a solid deck pull-type 13'10" cutter called, very creatively, the "1310". :) It was designed and used for shredding stalks on row crops, such as milo or cotton stalks. That particular width worked perfectly to cut 4 rows of stalks.

But it was a pain to transport on the road because of the width. And even though it was much cheaper than the 15' batwing model, most people bought the batwing just because of the advantages that the wings provided. Not sure if anyone still makes a 4-row solid deck cutter any more.

12' is as wide as I could find; I've seen some 15' or so flail mowers, neighbor has one.

Our dealer said that they do not make a 10ft batwing. The do come in larger sizes like 12, 15, 20 etc...

The only 10' folding we found was WoodsBW1260X, BW126X, BW126XHD.

Cutters are used in such a wide variety of situations that all three models find their niche. In the perfect World I'd own at least two models, a 3pt and a pull type.

With that said, I use a JD M1008 10' 3pt mounted on my M9540. I carry suitcase weights on the front. A mounted MX10 would very very heavy as well.

You've not gave us much of a description of your uses, or maybe I missed it??

I plan to mow about 30-50 acres of my land with it. Most is flat, then there is some slightly gentle hills but not much. I've pretty much decided to go with the 5085 E Cab tractor with John Deere. It has the power to pull a 10-12-15 ft with no problem from what the dealer is advising. I will have a FEL.

I have seen some by john deere too. I think they are custom ordered though, all it is is one of the wings is taken off and then a weight shield is put on to replace the wing so it is still balanced, I know woods makes them out of the factory.

If I was gonna mow 30 - 50 acres with a 5085E, I'd buy a 15' batwing and never look back.

I think a 12'-15' batwing would probably be the best.

Bravo2zero,

I need to clarify something. Please do not let my earlier post discourage you. the 75e has plenty of power to LIFT the mx8. The 75e will NOT have trouble PULLING or TURNING the mx8. The 5075e would probably even pull and turn the mx10 blades just fine in all but the tallest and thickest grass. I do feel, however, that a 3-point mx10 is too much weight to hang off the back of the 75e.

What I was talking about considering is the WEIGHT of the cutter, meaning that the front end of my 75e is light with a 3 point mx8 cutter on the back if you don't have a FEL or weights on the front. For example, I cannot load my 5075e tractor onto a trailer with my 3 point mx8 attached unless I have the FEL on front because the front tires will pop a wheelie when I drive up the ramps. This is due to all of all the weight hanging off the back of the tractor. You will not feel the weight of the cutter (not enough to matter) if it is a pull behind.

Personally, I believe the 5075 with a mx8 or a 5085 with a mx10 is a good match. I am simply saying you will want weights or a FEL on the front of the tractor is your cutter has a 3 point mount. If you are using a pull behind cutter, you will be fine without the weight up front to counter-balance.

I purchased the 85 E Cab - just waiting for it to arrive. Was advised that it would take 2-3 weeks due to the third function for the grapple-FEL. Excited too! Can't wait!

I know, long wait and can't wait :) I've been doing nothing but thinking and dreaming. Makes you feel like a little kid all over again. And that's a good thing!

I have an 83E and an mx10 full 3pt hitch mount ... I'd never go back to a pull type brush hog. Semi or full mount only for this guy.
OLD Thread Revived lol

I agree :D

Each hitch type has it purpose.

I'm wanting a 3pt lift type for backing up steep bank & driving forward down it.

The pull type is too heavy & real PITA for my application

Any other MX10 users / haters out there with input ?
