MX 5100 review and info

It's an LA852.

I think the MX5100 has a LA844 so it will lift about what your loader will. Have you checked your loader pressure to see if it at spec? Some of the loaders I have checked were low to some degree.

A question for you MX5100 owners. Will the MX5100 take a one ton pallet off a truck and is it able to set the one ton pallet on a truck. My L4610 will take a pallet off using the curl function only, but it will not lift the pallet off, nor can it lift it onto the truck/trailer. I have been looking at a new larger tractor for the past year or so and need the one ton capability on the loader. Just wanted to get your thoughts and experience. I have been looking at the L45 but the MX5100 would be a lot cheaper. Thanks!

You would need to look at the L45 as the MX5100 has the LA844 so that equates to approx. 1857lbs so it will not lift a one ton skid (2200lbs). I don't know what the L45 has but it's beefier.

DEX3361 makes a VERY good point - the pressure was almost 600 PSI lower than max on my L3700. I brought it up 400PSI and it made a BIG difference!!

Not to discount what others have said but I had my new loader manual sitting on the table and here is the info on the LA844 Loader
Lift Capacity:
500mm forward - MAX height - 1852lbs
500mm Forward at 1500mm off the ground - 2478lbs (I looked it up 1500mm is about 59")
Pivot pin Max Height 2443lbs
Pivot pin 1500mm Height - 3060lbs
Breakout force Pivot pin - 4178lbs
Breakout force 500mm forward - 3261lbs
Bucket roll back force at 1500mm 4248lbs
Bucket roll back force at ground level 4396lbs

Sounds like it should lift a 1 ton pallet off a regular trailer if it is not too high. I am only basing this on the book however - others may have real world experience.

If I performed the conversion correctly it should be able to lift 2478 lbs just shy of 5'. I would think it could lift 2000 slightly higher than that. The question is can it do it safely? You would definitely need some additional weight on the rear of the tractor, fluid in the tires and possibly some additional ballast. I am going to be moving some RR ties in the next month or so and I will see how it does with them. I am trailering them in on my EZ dumper and I can carry 25 at a time with it. The ties are about 200 lbs. each. I don't think I can handle 10 of them at a time though as I will be unloading them on a hill. I will probably only do 5 or six. I might try lifting 10 of them later on if I stack some for future use, but you will most likely have resolved your issue by that time.

KYDAN - I am interested in the real world results of your rail road lift test! As we know there is nothing better than a real life test! I also think I am going to check my loaders pressure tomorrow just for the heck of it.
I do agree that lifting that much weight is going to take some extra weight on the rear beyond loaded tires. I have my tires filled and a 750lbs counter weight I made that I like on whenever I have to lift heavy items. I think I am going to try and add some more weight to my counter weight (maybe another 500lbs -750lbs) just so I have a bit more safety. It is unreal how much more stable it make the tractor when the weight is one VS off.

When I handle that much weight, (1 ton) I hang four large suit case weights off the backhoe bucket. The suitcase weights are approximately 100 lbs each. This really stabilizes the tractor and it is easy to dump the weights when not needed.

Once I get the pallets off the truck the L4610 handles them with ease up to about two foot of lift. I think a bigger machine would benefit me greatly. The MX5100 looks to be a fine tractor and wouldn't mind one of them sitting in my machine shed, but it looks like I need to keep looking. I have had an eye on the skid steer line and might go that route. Thanks to all for your experience and opinions.

You will need additional weight for sure. When i first got my 5100 I had a huge pile of road millings ( ground up blacktop ) I had to move and I didn't have the rears filled yet.. When I filled the bucket to capacity it was just a bit scary trying to move anywhere at all with that much weight in the bucket.
It is still a bit sketchy even with the rears filled but not near as bad... If you are on uneven ground be careful !

thats when you run with shredder on the rear when your gonna fill the bucket full.all my loader is used for is heavy lifting.
