What is the big difference in running Economy mode or not? If running at ECO mode what speed should you be at and RPMs?

Does this matter with giving a better cut vs not going ECO or no? I love the pull behind MX8. I could have purchased the MX10 pull behind for the same price. After mowing 25 acres today I am rethinking did I do the right thing?

Also when mowing would I get better fuel milage if running in 2WD rather than 4WD?

You did not say what JD tractor you have. EPTO still sends 540 rpm to the PTO shaft, it just does it at a lesser engine RPM. Your tach should have a mark indicating RPM for EPTO
For me tractor ground speed determines quality of cut the faster I go the worse the cut.
I only use 4wd if I have to, as in rear wheels slipping.

You can trailer the tractor and MX8, but would be over width with an MX10. You can "road" either, but watch out for mailboxes with an MX10.
Depending on how many acres you mow and if it will leave your property or not, either can be a good choice.
For my use the MX8 would be best. I mow more than one property and "road" between them. I also cut trails thru wooded areas and an MX10 would be too big.
More mowing time is more tractor time, which is good.

i agree. 4wd for traction. if not needed.. don't use.

epto for light clipping.. like topping blacktops on bahia.

regular pto for real cutting.

Does your tractor have light to indicate 4wd engaged? Mine automaticly engages when brakes applied to increase braking effect

I don't think mine has a light indicator as it has been in 4WD since date of arrival and I see no lights. Zebra asked above, I have a 5085 E CAB.

Not trying to sound like a smart Alec but have you considered reading your operators manual? The operators manual is full of very good information. When I get a piece of equipment I always read the OM. Way back when I sold new farm equipment I recommended for owners to read OM.

TX Jim --- I'm not trying to be a smart alec but if you have been watching my threads, you would have noticed in a post, I did NOT receive manuals for the grapple, MX8 etc.. They forgot to bring them out. So what a better source than tractorbynet.com and hear from the horses mouth, when it comes to helpful friends to lend a helping hand until I can drive 1 1/2 to pick up the manuals tomorrow. :)

Besides this is a forum and without donut questions like mine it wouldn't be any fun :) I have always thanked everyone who has post helping me with my questions.

I totally agree that this is a "DISCUSSION forum". That's why I posted my question. BTW I think your pto question about E-pto would have been answered in the tractor operators manual as I read the info listed in MX8 OM listed here "Operating the Cutter for Best Performance". Although as I get older my reading comprehension is not as good as it once was I have been reading your threads.
Sorry for your inconvenience,Jim
