MX4700 vs MX5100 - Opinions?

When 2 units are in the same sized package I tend to always lean towards the most hp for the size.:thumbsup:
Now I know you are looking at the list below and are saying this guy is full of ....!
Well, I wish the l3130 was the bigger model as this one is short of hp.
I love the B3200 because it has lots of hp for the size and the size of the unit was important.

I am going to buy a new 5100 in June My concern is whether to buy a hst or not. I am wondering how it will hold up next to the shuttle shift.

I was just going to keep the place clean fence rows under brush and such. Now I have had about forty acres clear cut and there is a lot of Debree. Make piles and burn a lot of it and some I will chip and make walking lanes in some of the oaks, my wife wants to make walking trails in the oaks. Thirty acres will be replanted in pines for the kids future.

Then I would go with the HST.

We took a little over 40 acres out of production and reforested it with pines and hardwoods. It is a lot of work, but well worth it.

Thinks for the advise tripler, I have been looking for some opinions on this very subject. I really want to make the right choice. My old 885 case is still a very good tractor but I need the 4x4.

We have an old Case 995 out at our other farm and it is a great old tractor as are our Ford 600's, but I quit using 2WD up here in the hills several years ago, just too scary.

We primarily use an HST L5030 and an M8540 with the Hydraulic Shuttle Shift 12F/12R. While we love the 8540, the 5030 is easier to use for general utility stuff.

For what you are going to do, you will enjoy the HST, You will like the instant control of direction and speed in loader work, and your clearing operations. It is also way easier on your left leg if you do a lot of loader work.

Thanks for the info. What about tires I have always used ag tires, my friends say the r4 would be better in the woods because they stand a lot more abuse and resist punctures.

Use the search feature and you will find literally hours of reading on this subject. We have R4's on our L5030 and R1's on our M8540.

We run Orchard Turf tires on the back and R1's on the front of our MF 375 and have never had a flat on either and we use it in the woods.
