MX5100 Jerky 3pt hitch

   / MX5100 Jerky 3pt hitch #71
To me, a smooth operating 3pt hitch should be standard expectation on ANY Kubota tractor. If they need to cut cost, cut it on something else. The 3pt hitch operation is a core function of the tractor and should not be a place to cut corners. The MX5100 is not a cheap tractor, the configuration I purchased retailed for $30K. A $30K tractor should not have a "tolerance" for manufacturing or design that includes a jerky 3 pt hitch period.

+1:confused:

Well the LK35 seems to be an Australian only model but if it is the same tractor that was sold here as a LK3054 then it is one of the old step thru designs that was likely engineered back when Kubota and Kioti were still collaborating together.

Interesting. Have you read anything that leads you to believe that the LK35 and Lk3054 are the same?
Just wondering.
I did a search, I'm not sure but it appears to me that the LK35 is current.

Well it may be in Australia, or some other part of the world, but sure not here.

Let us know when and how things were resolved. Inquiring minds want to know. This has been an interesting and enlightening thread. Fortunately, all of my dealings with Kubota have been good.

I really like the MX5100 HST other than the 3pt hitch operation. If you don't plan to use the 3pt for smooth grading or don't need the ability to feather up the 3pt smoothly, then I would highly recommend it. However, for my use, I need a smooth 3pt hitch for grading and smoothing gravel. According to Kubota, if I need a smooth 3pt hitch, then I need to purchase a model with a 3pt designed for fine control and smooth operation. For Kubota, that would be the 3pt hitch design on the Grand L's and M series utility tractors.

So, I am in the process of returning my MX5100 HST to exchange it for a Grand L. My dealer has been extremely helpful and supportive. Looking to have the exchange completed in the next couple of weeks.

I'm glad it's working out for you. IMHO, the basic requirment of ANY 3pt hitch for ANY level (econo - deluxe) includes smooth opperation, this just simply isn't a feature. Maybe I'm wrong or maybe they don't complain about it, but I've never heard of a similar issue with any of the much less expensive grey market tractors here on TBN. They seem to have figured out how to do it without raising cost and probably with much fewer engineering resources at their disposal.

[I want to exchange this tractor; it isnt working right.] ... Kubotas stance of defining the std line with take a chance hydraulics is ridiculous and dangerous. This problem was surmounted before Kubota existed. :frown:

..."take a chance hydraulics "

Your exactly right... if you happen to have a smooth operating Standard L or MX, then it is strictly by chance because it is not designed to be that way:shocked:

Aaaaargh... come on you guys.. I finally finished anger management therapy over this, and you're gonna send me right back to the head-shrinker again. I can feel my blood pressure starting to build just thinking about it. Reminds me of Inspector Clouseau and Dreyfuss the time Clouseau went to visit Dreyfuss at the nuthouse

I have owned my MX4700 for a bit over a year and half, work with my 3pt alot still clearing land. I have not seen this problem at all, mine works great, I also know 4-5 people who own a 5100 and haven't seen this problem either (we talked about the other models problems) so It may be less prevalent in other models.

That's my take on it too, the bigger MX models seem less prone to it than the L series. Still kinda hit or miss though. If I were ordering an MX in on a special order, there'd be a written agreement with the dealer that if I wasn't happy with the 3pt operation I wouldn't be buying that tractor, or possibly any tractor at all from him at the end of the day. If you're gonna play hardball you've got to be prepared to bat.
