MX5100 landscape/shredding?

I suppose that Im looking for a multi-use tractor that will do all tasks very well. I don't know if that tractor exists. I curently run an old IH 1066, and it's great for shredding the 10 acres of pastureland that I have, but I can't really do anything else with it around my place. Im seriously looking at getting rid of the 1066, and buying a Kubota MX5100 and use to shred and also on the lawn to move mulch,etc. with a loader. Question is : is the MX 5100 too large/heavy a tractor to put on the lawn (I plan on buying with industrial tires). and sell the IH 1066, or should I be keeping the 1066, and buy something like a John Deere 4005 for the landscape work?

My MX5100 with R4 tires does fine in the yard so long as: 1) I'm not in 4wd, and 2) the ground isn't wet. Making a turn while in 4wd will cause the front wheels to churn up the sod. Repeated runs -- straight line or otherwise, 4wd or not -- over the same track will compact the soil and kill the grass, resulting in a parallel pair of well-worn paths that may wash and produce ruts over time if the track runs down a slope. Operating in the yard with a loaded FEL bucket will accelerate all the above.

That said, I mowed my yard for two seasons with my MX5100 pulling a rotary finish mower. The only reason I stopped was because I bought a zero turn mower.

I use the my mx5100 in landscaping for my business. You just need to be a little more careful since its a little bigger than the L's that most people by for that type of work.

The primary work for this tractor will be shredding, keeping up trails, general loader work around the place. The landscape work essentially consists of an annual mulching around the flower beds, and Im thinking this could really help out as Ive been doing it with a shovel (approximately 9 cubic yards a season). So Ill only be on the lawn once a year.

I think it will be a good setup for what you have described. If you go any bigger than you will have a lot heavier tractor

That's kind of what I'm thinking as well. With the other arrangement (keeping the ih 1066 + buying a JD 4005), I'm only gaining about 400 plus pounds of tractor by going with the MX5100, and getting about 9 more horsepower. Make sense?

Sorry, forgot to consider difference in the weight of the 2 loaders (which is not easy information to find out). Im certain the MX5100's la844 loader will weigh considerably more than the JD 4005's CS300 loader. Also add to that a 1 ft difference in the width of the 2 loaders (6 ft. vs 5ft), especially loaded, that will add up to be a significant weight difference.

I run a L5030 HSTC pretty much the way you describe and it may even be a little heavier than the MX5100 as it has a cab, the MX5100 is a nice tractor and should do fine.

I even run our M8540 through our yard with no ill effects.

the mx5100 with R4s will be fine on your yard as long as it isnt muddy.the LA844 loader adds 1000lbs of weight to the tractor.

I also have the MX 5100. I have to agree with jcliburn. Use it on your lawn in 2 wheel drive with no problem with the R4 tires. When I got mine it had AG's on it, not good on the lawn, lol. The MX is a very multi-purpose tractor, I think you would be happy with it.
