mx8 or mx 6 on a 4710

The range of prices on an mx8 were quite a bit. For a semi mount, with front and rear chains, anywhere from 4300 to 5400 dollars. My "new" dealer was quite a bit below 4300 and found me a new mx8 semi mount at a different dealer in a different state, and will haul it back to their dealership for me for free. His computer said the next factory delivery of an MX8 would be no later than September 30
Great dealer, no nonsense, no problems. The dealer I bought the tractor, FEL and finish mower wanted my finish mower, and an additional 3k for the mx8, thats just plain crazy......

If your guy can get it from another dealer's lot I would go for it. I ordered my MX6 July 1 and didn't get it till winter (not much use then). I think they only make the cutters 1/2 the year. I imagine they are working on snowblowers now.

I thought I'd give an update on the mx8. I just got it yesterday, and tried it out. This thing is huge, and is about as big as a 4710 would ever need. One thing I noticed is the noise this thing makes while its operating at pto speed. This thing makes a swoosh swoosh swoosh swoosh sound. I hope this is normal. I mowed some pretty nasty weeds that were above the hood of the tractor, and only got a 50 RPM drop in the heaviest stuff. This thing is an animal, it goes through weeds that have a 2 inch stem, no problem. Only thing I dont like, is that it doesnt have a rear chain, but one is on order. Thanks for all of you that replied to my questions about this type of mower.

That's good info. How did the handling turn out with that beast? Are you mowing with your FEL on or off?

Handling is okay actually. I tried it with the FEL on, and it was fine. Took the FEL off and put on the recommended weight on the front, and it was still fine. I got the semi mount mx8, so you feel it when you turn. I did notice that a slow turn is nice, this thing gets to going, its got quite a bit of momentum behind it.
