mx8 or mx 6 on a 4710

I know on the hydro some guys that I know can't pull as much. Two of my friends have the 4700 and 4710. They have the 8' rotary harrows for their arenas. When I have been using the harrow on their arena compared to my 4600 I can pull the harrow faster with the 4600 than I can on their hydros. The one guy has the load match on his and that is much better than the regular hydro 4700.

In the long run the MX6 would be better on the tractor but as you say no hills and if it's not thick you should be ok. If it were me I wouldnt but around here there are to many hills.

I would get the MX-6 because we have a few customers who use the MX-7 on tractors such as the old Sound Gard style tractors upwards of 120 hp. I think the MX-8 would really work the tractor hard.

From what I've found, the MX7 is a single blade mower. It takes a lot of horsepower to start the mx7 up. Once it gets going, I've been told that it works fine on a 4710. The difference in the MX7 and MX8, is that the MX8 has two gear boxes, with much smaller blades. My dealer told me that the mx8 starts much easier than the mx7 due to this. He also told me that if I didnt mind putting the throttle to full power, then pulling the pto on, the rpm then will go way down, then back up, the mx7 would work, but I dont like that scenario. Thats to hard on the tractor.

Putting the PTO up to full speed then engaging the PTO is real hard on the tractor. Always engage at low rpm. I do even with the rear finish mower. If you think you can handle the 8 go for it then. I personally would rather use a smaller unit to avoid damage to the tractor. Maybe if you dealer has both set up try starting the MX-8 with your 4710 and see how much power it takes. It is your tractor and your choice.

I'll check with my neighbor, but I think it's a MX6(might be a MX8) he has on his shiftless 4610. He cuts no problem with it on hills. But then again he does have a loader.

Good advice, Im taking my tractor up there on Monday, see how much power it takes to get it going. I dont think it will be a problem if it will start it. The tallest grass id mow probably would be 1 foot. I get mixed thoughts from the dealers around here, some say it will work fine, some say its on the big side. Either way, its a tossup. But, I really dont think it would work cutting 4 foot tall stuff, small trees, etc. Thanks for all the input! I'll let you know how things go on monday.

I have a MX6 and run it off 35 PTO HP. I'll occasionally start to bog down in very tall (3-4') and thick grass but that's about it. It's easy enough for me to stop for a couple seconds then move on again. I've never bogged down cutting brush.

You have more power than me, and the fields here grow a lot faster and thicker than the ones I have seen in CO, so it seems to me you would be OK with the MX8.

I got the chance to talk at length to someone who owns a 4710 and a mx8. Looks like it will work, as long as I dont go into 8 foot high brush. Spent some time looking for one, worked with an awesome dealer, Colby Implement in Colby, KS, so my mx8 is on the way. Thanks for all your help in this decision everyone.

Care to share what an MX8 goes for on the street?
