just curious. 30x40=1200, where did the other 400 sqf come from?
I've been watching your thread since you started last July to see who things went. I'm still trying to clear my land for a 32x48 with gambrel attic trusses or maybe bigger foot print if I dont shoot for the gambrel roof.

Wedge-- I got the 1600 sqft from the actual footprint, which is 40x40. I included the 10x40 porch in my figure b/c it was part of my goodies that I added onto the initial building.

Despite the delay from last week due to weather, the concrete crew arrived this morning ready to pour my 20 yards. With a few extra hired hands, they muscled the 1st truck into place, which thankfully filled up 2/3 of the barn floor. Then the 2nd truck showed up an hour or so later and finished off the barn, moved onto the front apron area, then repositioned for the porch area. After all was said and done, turns out they had a bit extra left in the truck, so I had just the place for it.

Looks great Rx!

Are you planning on wiring it, and if so,what kind of lighting are you wanting to use?

77TA-- Yes, I am planning on running 220V power to the barn. I've stubbed in some 2" conduit through the floor and will probably run outlets around all the interior walls, a few ceiling outlets, a few overhead lights, a few lights under the porch, a few on the front wall, some exterior outlets, and probably a dusk/dawn light on a pole/tree outside. I got a price on the wire, conduit, trencher, etc and need to start collecting outlet boxes and wiring. I have a telephone pole that I found in the brush down the street, drug it home with my tractor, and I've debated whether to put it up and mount a security light on it. I may also replace the "scary bridge" and add a 3rd pole, thus reinforcing it and making a much stronger bridge that isn't quite so scary! That's a winter project that might tide me over until spring time.

I've been contemplating the overhead light issue and can't decide which way to go. I've seen some government surplus high-powered lights for LARGE buildings that were real cheap, maybe $50 each and 400W. I thought 2 per 10' section, so total of 8 and I would have ample amounts of light. I don't know which size to look for or what it just too big. I've also got experience with the cheapo-depot 4' fluorescent lights that just "plug-in". My last house had a single light bulb fixture in the 2-car-garage ceiling, which I swapped out and put in a 2 plug outlet. Bought 2 $8 fluorescent shop fixtures, plugged them in, screwed them to the drywall, and they worked fine (original bulbs) for 7 years.

Tyler, just a comment/question from the back row here and someone with more electrical experience than me please speak up. What about the 277v rating on the Craigslist lights. Will your 220v service be enough to give you what you need and want out of these lights. I've seen and heard of similar situations where someone will buy a machine or piece of equipement that's rated for 3 phase or whatever and bring it home and find out they can't support it. Something to think about....:thumbsup:

Yea, I noticed that when I searched for that ad posting again. I mainly wanted to use that as an example of the "type" of light I was browsing for. I appreciate your concern and good point, might I ad. Its for varying reasons like that that I am really leaning to just using maybe a "commercial grade" fluorescent tube fixture rather than the high-power arena lights.

The contractor held good to his word and came back the next day after the pour with a couple of concrete saws. The sidewalk and porch had dried, however, he was very apprehensive to cut the floor inside the barn. He felt it was too green. He said something about 2 different types of concrete saw blades, one for green concrete and one for dry concrete. He dug around his truck toolbox for a bit and popped up saying, "This is just the blade that I was looking for" and brandished this green colored diamond-blade. For all I know, he could have been just blowing smoke, but at least it didn't chip when he cut it. I couldn't do that finish work b/c between the noise and dust, I'd end up with lung cancer and deaf.

After installing "backer rod" into the concrete saw cuts that were outside, they caulked those cuts with a self-leveling polyurethane concrete sealant. The inside dust was swept up and they were complete. All in all, I'd have to say I was pleased with his work. Despite his "pan handling", the job looks great! Check out my pics I've attached.

The next phase is to move some stuff in and then on to the electrical. I've got some 2x6's to put up for the loft-floor and then lay down the plywood decking. I found a surplus materials shop in the Oklahoma City that sells slightly damaged construction materials for a larger lumberyard. I found a sweet deal one some 4x8 sheets of 7/16" OSB, $3 each.:cool2: They even had some 4x9 sheets that were obviously cut long (go figure). They had been stored under an open awning and had gotten wet; the top one on the bundle had warped and split, but the others were fine. I bought all 7 sheets and hope to check with him in a few weeks for more!

Good Evenin Tyler,
Well the barn came out great !

I helped the contractor when he cut my floor up and yes the dust was about unbearable ! We both used those white cloth masks, and I dont think they helped much ! :(

Its allready November and no cracks, only hairline cracks from the cuts towards the ground on the perimeter. So we are pretty happy about that...

I would like to seal the slab but Im not sure what to use... any suggestions ?

Great job !

I used Benjamin Moore industrial epoxy in my garage. It was expensive, but worth it. Any good epoxy will do. But I've been told to stay away fr Rustoleum floor epoxies.
