Thanks for all the tips guys! I don't know anything about the design history of the 55 series tractors, but the raise/lower of the MMM is certainly connected to the bucket tilt/dump on the FEL. I spent all day saturday mowing. I had read about the optional FEL legs for unmounting the FEL in the manual, and went out to check, and surprisingly they are right there on their holding brackets.

My dealer told me that if I wish, I can remove hoses 1 & 2 from the FEL, and that will allow the MMM to operate independently. Later models of the 855 with a FEL/MMM combo had a 6 way valve instead of the 4 way, and actually had a separate control lever for the MMM.

Unfortunately, I need to get my dealer back out on Monday, as it sounds like something came loose on the MMM....after a couple hours of mowing, it sounds like one of the blades is loose or very poorly balanced, and I do not know enough about the machine to check it out myself yet. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Anyway....the final verdict is that I LOVE MY DEERE! And I will certainly keep posting to TBN, as I have not found a better group of people for this subject.

ALso, stay tuned for "Tractor Cam". I am going to put a webcam on my tractor, connected to the internet live via 802.11b networking! Everyone can watch me scoop out the horse stalls!

Thanks OkieG,

Again, I have to extend kudos to my Deere dealer. Even though the tractor is used, they managed to find a complete set of manuals for the tractor, the FEL and the MMM. They even provided a brand new set of turf tires, the canopy, all safety stickers, new reflectors and a new SMV triangle on the back. All of the lynch pins for the 3PH are in their holders, and even the aluminum twist-lock cover for the rear PTO spline shaft is in place!

I give very big thanks to John and Jim over at Dekalb Implements!!!!

Awesome - I think mossroad did some video while brush hogging - loved to watch that!
Looking forward to the webcam - are we obsessed or what?!?

OkieG,

The MMM lift cylinder is described in the tractor parts catalog not the MMM manual. The page is located near the end of the hydraulic section (I23) and titled "655. 755 and 855 Mid Mower Cylinder Lift Kit". I think it was a dealer installed option and it did cost extra although I do not recall how much it was. The manual for my MMM only shows the use of the 3PH lift control for raising and lowering the MMM. No mention of using the FEL control lever.
