rods, reels, lures, boat, fuel, truck, trailer, guns, ammo, bows, arrows, hunting blinds/stands, hunting clothes, fishing clothes, license fees, charter boats, guided hunts, hunt club(s) 😂😂
Sorry, joking at your expense. I'm not allowed to hunt, no one at my house will eat it. I do like to fish, often carry a rod in my saddle scabbard to hit some remote spots. Best trip ever, flew out of Fairbanks (business trip) for a weekend at King Salmon, Alaska. Worst trip, charter out of Cape Coral, got skunked but had a blast with boat captain. He felt bad for us and stayed out until sunset. Already booked with him for our April vacation.

Funny, i was just watching a Boston Legal episode wher Denny and Alan went on a canadian fishing trip. Helicopter fishing. Looked fun so i looked up that lodge and fees. $18,000 per person off season, $22,000 peak per person plus $350 per night if you want a water front cabin. Than add $17,000 for helicopter.

I think ill stick to my horses

I'm not a horse owner, can't afford em, I hunt and fish. 😁

Around here from time to time I hear of folks buying the wild horses, mustangs from either the outer banks or out west somewhere. Knew a few people who got one or two and went through the breaking in periods. After THEY were broke(n) they ended up selling them. You have to be more dedicated than a normal horse owner to keep one/get it ridable. I like to watch em though, from a safe wallet distance. ;)
Our town has an ag expo center. One of the events coming in March is a wild mustang adoption. I have been there just to see the horses. The operative word is "wild". They did have some good looking horses.

I got a donkey from a BLM auction many years ago. They had a full pen of them and the minimum bid was $150.

I went up to the pen and he was the only one to come up and leg me pet him. Rest took off. My wife made a JOKE bid of $50 to get me mad at her. They ended up accepting the bid because they said he was real gentle and needed a good home. After spending about $1500 making an addition to our barn, the BLM guys even delivered him to us while i was setting up the metal corral panel pen.
BLM required corral panels until he became accustomed, as he would have broken out of field fencing.

Wilbur ended up being a very nice donkey. Didnt much like the horses, but he would let anyone pet him. He liked to follow me and my dogs as i walked around property. He got along fine with my golden retrievers, but chased off any other dog.

Shoer had no issues trimming either. For a completely wild donk, he was something else. They told me he’d probably never go inside the barn or drink out of the automatic waterer….they were wrong. He loved his stall. He died a few years ago, but had a good life not having to scrounge for food. The place he came from in New Mexico had burnt down after 2 large brush fires. Hard for wild animals to find food.

Our crew definitely likes their stalls, we give them 24 hour access. Too often find all 4 in one stall. One of the better choices the wife made for you?

Sounds like a great guy. We lived for a while down the block from a couple of formerly feral donkeys in a local park. One, Perry, was the model for "Donkey" in Shrek.

Like many donkeys, a real character.

All the best,

Peter

As a kid, we lived on the edge of town, just 3 doors away from the city limits. A farmer on the other side if the line had a donkey.

In the morning the donkey wanted his breakfast and would "hee-haw" until someone came out to feed him. It was fun to listen to, except on the days we wanted to sleep in.

I've always liked donkeys.
As long as they are somebody else's. 😉

I believe I would do well with a mule.....

Though they may well be smarter than I.
