General, you made me curious. So I went out and measured the grade on some of my hills. I used an inclinometer that is built into my compass. From my measurements anything over about 20 degrees is starting to get steep to me. I have one pitch about 30 degrees which I consider real steep. So if your really going up steeper than 45 degrees, which is 50% more, you might want to put that weight back in your bucket and keep it real low. Why take chances you don't need to.
