Good Evenin Al,
Yes its 6" plus and about 12" on the outer walls. I went with the 4000 lb mix with the fine stone, and yes we used the gravel and crushed shale for the base, and compacted well.

Your building sounds good, and of course no posts make life much easier! :)

We just felt that any heavy equipment, tractors etc, that the thicker floor was the way to go ! Dropping the bucket or the concrete barrel on the 3 pt hitch, lots of weight there...

Anyways Al, good luck with your building !

Looks like things are coming along well with your dream! I have a tiny shop that I built over 20 years ago, and it has been great to have it. I don't know if you will ever have kids around, but one thing I did was to wire the outlets that were going to be used for power tools to a separate wall switch so the power to all of them could be turned off easily. I leave the light on my drill press on, and that tells me if there is power to the other machines too...... Of course my machines are small, and that makes it easier to do that.

Good Evenin Chuck,
Yes thats an excellent suggestion... I dont have any small kids around but Im sure at some point that we may find a grandchild or two ...;)

I have the light on my drill press also, so that would work out well !

Here are some more pics from this past weekend, we rounded up a bunch of guys and got the 42' walls up, I didnt think we had that many guys in the area !

So far so good !

My friend Neil also stopped by with the command car that he just restored ! :)

BTW those boys can drink some beer, they cleaned me out at 10 am !

Good to see your walls up Scotty. It was a great weekend for drinking - er, I mean building :) I was hoping you could take advantage of the weather and I see you did.
Dave.

Good Evenin Dave,
Yep a bunch more of that beer consumption again...:)

All four walls up now, scaffolding being built to install the trusses, that should hopefully happen this tuesday ! :)

And of course there is me doing all that staining, wearing out my right arm and hand and other things... ;):)

Some up to date pics for the guys ! :)

Oh yes and a bonus shot... the storm that chased us up to Uncle Daves for more beer and some food late saturday afternoon ... :)

Good Evenin Guys,
The trusses went up yesterday.... some shots for those that might be interested !

You will also note that the end walls dint have sheathing on the top two feet. The overlap will make for a stronger wall...

Enjoy...:)

I did notice the end walls. I was thinking that maybe you were going to use clear material for light to be able to come in. The overlap is a great idea for extra strength.

The project's comming along nicely! Wish mine was going that fast.

Lookin' good Scotty. Be all closed in before you know it. I am sure it's a good feeling. And, you have plenty of time before the snow flies to get into it.
Dave.
