Nice building pad Scotty. Is that dozed dirt settled/compacted enough to pour a slab on? I know you will compact the stone on top, but the dirt below needs to be solid too. Are you putting sill seal between the PT sill and slab?

Nice location for your barn. Did you order up this great weather for building? :D
Dave.

Cyril,
We have had windy, chilly, cloudy weather lately. It's 36* now, feels like winter is coming instead of leaving. :) At least it didn't rain all day like yesterday. Send that sunshine over.

I don't know if Scott was spared but a little further north we had an inch of snow today. If not for the warm ground it probably would have been more since it snowed all day long and is still snowing as I type.

dcyrilc, thanks for thinking of us. Next time could you please just send a post card of the bad weather.

Good Evenin Dave,
Yep the sill seal is supposed to be used, I will check with my contractor, since it gets a tad windy up there at times ! ;)

Good Evenin Al,
We got some snow flakes but nothin that amounted to anything... But Sunday mornin the deck on my porch was mostly ice ! :D

As promised a couple of dozer shots...

The dozer was driven over all of that dirt that was moved but it was only a JD 450 so not a great amount of weight,,,

Evening Scotty,

Not sure if the dozer's weight is enough. Maybe someone has a better idea on it. You could run your vibratory plate compactor on the new pad soil before putting stone down, and compare what happens to running it on undisturbed dirt as a sort of test. You don't want to have settlement under your slab. Might depend on the soil type too, like if it is clay.

I'm about to start a garage also using an Alaska slab. I'm going to put down a layer of washed stone down first to promote drainage.

My plan is to disturb as little of the ground as possible then put the stone on top of it. I have to dig down where it looks like you had to build up.

Just got the sun broke in properly for you. Nice and warm, just the way you like it. You guys should get it in a few days.

Scotty,
I did my own foundation for my barn.
I used 3 to 4" lifts of DG (decomposed granite) to build the foundation. After every lift, I wetted it down and drove the Kama tractor over every square inch. I did this until I got the desired height and width for the building pad. Then I used my boxblade to cut and level the pad. It came out so compacted that my contractor was laughing at me when I asked him if it was good enough. He had to use a hammer to pound in his layout feathers. So if that dozer did something similar, I'd think it should be plenty good.
Keep the photos coming.
