For me personaly to spoof a number it would only take a minute. Doing it for every number would get old quick though. This is only because I haven't looked into software(or writing it) and hardware to do it for me. It could be fun to play around with for a minute or two but have to much other stuff to do.

What really bugs me about this is the group mentioned appears to be the union that represents the troopers. I would think intentionally spoofing a caller ID during a fund raising for state troopers would be unethical and possibly illegal. That's why I was hoping it would have been a fluke and not intentional. I guess the only way to know would be to ask them, but that ain't ever gonna happen. If it happened to me, I'd report it to the local newspaper or TV station and let one of their investigative reports have a field day.

After reading quite a bit this evening, I doubt the union has their own phone switch which they change for every telemarketing call. And I doubt they have a ss7(?) line and they program their phones between calls to reflect the number they are calling. In my opinion(which is sometimes, OK most times, worth a hill of beans), it was either a fluke or it has something to do with them using part of the emergency system to avoid long distance charges. I'll give them the bennifit of the doubt and say fluke, but it smells fishy. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
