Thanks for the compliments.

The container barn has worked or really well. The size is big enough for what I need and for once, I havn't built something I wish was larger.

Just wanted to update everyone on the latest development.

I've sold the Container Barn and 36 acres that it sat on, plus 200 acres next to it. This is a good thing when I realized the advantages to the deal.

I still have over 68 acres left, that is now paid for free and clear, that I've been working on building the RV Park. This is a HUGE step forward for me, and hopefully one of my last hurdles.

Now I'm homeless again and in need of another barn. Part of the deal was to allow me to live in the barn until Sep 1 rent free.

It's a good barn that evolved into my home, though it was never intended to be that. The new barn will have a larger living area with more space. It will be on a cement slab and stick built using mostly conventional methods. I say mostly because I'm also going to use this building as a model for my other projects and do my experimenting with certain features that I'm planning.

Thanks for all your advice, support and comments,
Eddie Walker

Building a "normal" home and attached/detached workshop just doesn't have the same appeal /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Don't forget to take down your TBN memory stone and take it with you when you finally have to leave the Barn /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif!

Eddie, how about a metal building with part of it finished out for living quarters? It could be your groundskeeper shop later eh? Maybe a really small manufactured? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Man, free and clear, that's the way to be!

I was thinking the same thing! That container barn was just the coolest. I think that it was the greatest clubhouse/fort that every boy who ever lived wanted to live in!

That said, best of luck with your future plans!

I think the barn looks great, especially now that the front is painted. I have a couple of naive questions, though.

First, why use the containers at all? You've gone and built almost the entire building yourself. The only advantage I can see to the containers is that they save you from building two walls. I would think you would be cheaper to just build the walls. The containers give you a little bit of storage, but the entrance is awkward and the layout inside the container is a lot less comfortable than the rest of the barn. I just don't see the point of the containers, but then I've never built anything more complicated than a raised bed.

My second question is how are those 6x6 posts at the front and back anchored? Did you sink them in concrete or are they just floating on the gravel bed?

As I said, they are naive questions.

CSW,

Nothing wrong with asking questions. We all start someplace.

I bought the containers to have a place to store my tools and tractor that would be somewhat secure. They cost just over $3,000 for the both of them delivered. It took about 7 months or so until I was able to put the roof over them. It was just the way things worked out for me, and the best solution at the time.

Your right about them not being the best way of doing things. My replacement for the Container Barn will be stick built on a cement slab.

The posts are sunk in the ground three feet and filled with the clay that came out of the holes. Nothing fancy or clever. Just like putting in fence posts. It works in my area, but I couldn't tell you about anyplace else.

Welcome to TBN, it's full of helpfull folks with tons of information!!!

The front entrance way you built. Is that on your property or is it on the one you sold?
