My Dad

When my Mom passed she had a very long bout of Alzheimer's so every time I would visit she really wasn't there and never knew who I was.

The day she passed the entire family was upset and crying and I was actually euphoric, and had a huge smile on my face the whole day, my sister thought I was nuts.

When it came time to do the eulogy I told of all the funny stories my Mom and I has, all the fun, how she was wild enough at her old age to swim in a creek, cantankerous enough to still give the waitress heck if she didn't bring HOT coffee, about all the times my Mom would laugh, and all the times my Mom would laugh at my antics. Yep that was the lady I knew and that was the lady I wanted to introduce to all the grand kids in the church.

My euphoria was because I knew now she was at peace, she was now without pain, and now she could take that well earned rest - that's why I was as happy as I was.

I hope that in a small way you smile inside knowing your Dad is taking that well earned rest he deserves, because every day I look at Moms picture I break out in a huge grin.

I'm sorry for your loss, my father passed away last Fathers Day at age 82 after a 5 year battle with Alzheimers, and it was 35 years ago that I lost my Mom. The memories will always be there and you are the legacy they leave behind.

I hope the sorrow will pass quickly, and my God Bless you.

Cat_Driver, My Mom also died of Alzheimers. She slowly went down hill, then hit a plateau. I was well perpared for her death. Dad was another case. His heart just stopped. Maybe he did that so I wouldn't have to decide if he got cancer treatment. Thank ou so much.
hugs, Brandi

Mud,
The Big RED Beast is getting close to 500 hours now. She really shined when I dug my pond.

Sorry for your loss. Dad passed 4 years ago. I still want to pick up the phone and call him. I think of him often as I am working on the tractor and doing work I remember him doing. The memories are bitter sweet at times.

Samandothers,
Thank you. I hear you. Dad went into the nursing home last May. Mom followed him in June. I kept wanting to call them at home. I still think about calling to get their opinion.

I got an email yesterday evening that the title company says I am all clear to sale Mom and Dad's house. I cried tears of happiness when I read that email. I heard today that we will be closing next Tuesday. Prayers are still needed, as my brother is hot about me "stealing the house" (his words) from him. The assault case against him is still on the horizon. The court is waiting to get a mental exam (my brother's request!) on him to see if he is competent to stand trail. Please pray for both of us.
hugs, Brandi
