Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Little doubt I lost my mind a while ago already, but sometimes I swear that I feel a small animal jump on the bed and find no one there.

I really feel our beloved pets never really "leave" until we re-join them and the rest of the pack waiting for "Alpha/Daddy."

Lowell- Thanks for sharing.

Having lost three canine friends, I understand. Love dogs even though I am allergic to them.

It is said that dogs cannot go to heaven. I believe it was Mark Twain who said that if dogs were not allowed in heaven, he would not want to go there.

Have been without a dog for about 7 years. A long time.

I believe it was Mark Twain who said that if dogs were not allowed in heaven, he would not want to go there.

That was Willl Rogers.

Below are some of my favorites from Mr. Twain on the subject...

"If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man."

"The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog".

"Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in."

"The dog is a gentleman; I hope to go to his heaven, not man’s."

"When a man’s dog turns against him it is time for a wife to pack her trunk and go home to mama."

Champ as a pup and in his prime all ready to travel. He would sometimes sit-up on the seat so he could see out all the windows .

You can see a lot of personality in those pictures. So sorry for your loss-- been there, done that, and it's heartbreaking.

I am truely sorry for your loss. I, too, lost my little buddy on Nov. 30th to cancer. It was very aggressive and didn't present itself until just 6 weeks before. Too sudden, too unexpected. Cherish your memories of Champ. They won't go away.

Busy but sad yesterday, with a memorable sunset.

This is very sad news about your pup. The little ones really get into our hearts, and the longer we have them the more it hurts to lose them.

Sorry for your loss of Champ. Thanks for sharing his story.

They ask for so little and give back so much more in return. Champion reads like a great dog who had great owners and who crossed the "Rainbow Bridge" from his favorite spot and waits on the other side holding point for his pack to follow.

My condolences.

Hang in there.

These are the toughest threads to read. I still harken back to my dogs that have moved on... and one in particular that I rescued from the wild. Actually a Coy-Dog I came to find out.

Hard to say more without choking up. I think a good dog might be better than the best man.

No, without a doubt. A good man is just as good as a good dog IMO.

A good dog however is better than the average man.

That tells you a lot IMO about both species.

Part of the reason why my wife fell in love with me.

Pretty much any dog you can save with training and guidance and they WILL show you loyalty for it. This is not the case with men. Mr. Twain was pretty smart for being so old... funny how that works for writers in our past.

I'd like to think that instead of just one animal meeting me, it would be at least 20 of my former pets, including my human loved ones.
