Y'all need to move away from there, pets are obviously not wanted in CT. Six months quarentine would get you entrance into Great Britain.

it is just like when the police officer in Texas arrested a woman because her child wasn't restrained by a seat belt. A ticket would have been sufficient, but he wanted to make an "example" out of her

I think I know which incident you're referring to, and of course it wasn't quite as simple as she first claimed.

Kinda like the urban legend that built up around the older lady who was burned by McDonald's coffee. People get half a story, part of it wrong, and then form opinions based upon misinformation. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

( Why would they specify a 3 or a 6 month isolation if they could tell if the dog had been exposed in 10 days? )

I think the reason is because an animal can have the virus in them and not be infectious until the virus reaches the brain. At that time, the animal is "rabid" and usually only survives a couple of weeks. So an animal can have rabies but not be rabid. It takes no more than six months to become rabid if so exposed, hence the quarantine.

I only know what was reported in the media when the case made it to the U.S. Supreme Court. What I did find incredulous was that the lawyers didn't challenge the validity of the original seat belt law.
So, what is the rest of the story ??????

This woman was driving down the road looking for something she had lost. She had all her kids hanging out the windows trying to find whatever it was. When she was pulled over it also turned out she didn't have her driver's license in her possession due, according to her, to her purse having been stolen. Then she got mouthy when the cop had a problem with all that. She might have refused to sign the ticket. So she went to jail. Her husband was a dentist, if I remember correctly, so there were plenty of assets to burn through to take it to the Supreme Court. It's been a while since this happened so all of this is IIRC.

Ain't no way that my dog would be taken from me and "stored" at some kennel. I would kennel the dog at home as previously mentioned and if the authorities wouldn't agree to that then I would have to 'kidnap' my dog to a friends house or relatives. Or perhaps come up with some crazy story where the dog disappeared. Stupid laws, where does common sense come into play? Got my blood pressure up with this topic. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

The verdict is in:
Six months quarantine in my home /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif. I finally plead my case to the State and they granted my request. I had to build a pen in my yard, although she can't be outside alone. I also had to get a cage for her to be in while she is inside the house. The local animal control officer came over today to inspect my setup and have me sign a bunch of forms. I can't begin to describe how relieved we are. It will be a tough six months but at least she'll be home. Thank you for all the support.

do you have to put up any warning signs? I know when a animal is quarantined at the veterinarians place, the cage that the animal is in, has all sort of warning signs on it and precautions, such as "wash hands after handling", etc.

I pushed for the dog being quarantined because I was afraid the dog would bite someone else, like the kids that ran around their trailer. This is in a trailer park with no fencing. They were asked to get rid of the dog when they showed up with it. And of course, if it had bit someone and there was a lawsuit involved, I would have been the one held liable because I didn't make them get rid of it.
