hi everyone. its been a while since i posted anything, mainly from just asking some questions. but i get on all the time to check what other people have come up with to build or modify they're equipment. so, i figure since i finally got most of my necessary "toys" i started building my own and i thought i'd share some pics. let me know what you think. the pictures "if they come up right" are of my jd4110, the auxiliary hydraulics i put on using someone elses thread on how to install it. (if i knew their names i would credit them) and the cart i am currently building. I hope to have it done this weekend if i can get to town to get the lumber. enjoy!

Looks fantastic, and handy as heck. If you are dumping a heavy sticky load will the tongue try to lift the back of the tractor? How heavy is the tractor?

thank you jimmyj, thats something im curious to try out, the tractor weighs 1500 pounds and when i dump it as is, it does lift the tounge when the dump is at its steepest angle, but most dumps only go to 45 and 50 degrees and the load comes out, mine will go to 70 degrees so im hoping the load will come out before it has a chance to lift the tounge. either way i dont think it will be enough to lift the tractor. but thats why im anxious to get it together and see how it works.

Man that thing looks heavy duty. Nice work. As for the lifting of the tractor, IF it lifts it, you could make a set of legs that automatically deploy at the back of the trailer, to keep the tail from dropping.

yes handirifle, it turned out heavier than it looked on paper :), but you bring up a good point. i was also thinking of putting some legs at the back because the tractor i use to haul it i will also use to load it and i could flip the legs down to make it more stable while not hooked to my tractor.

OK, i finally finished my dump cart, well, except for the tail gate latch but i'll get to that sometime. :) and before you say anything, yes i know the tires are a little small, but when i designed it on the computer it looked good but i'll see how it works and if it can't stand up to the abuse i'll weld a regular 4 bolt hub on and get bigger tires. so with that said, feel free to comment or criticize or if you just have any questions. im really happy with how it turned out and can't wait to start using it.

the only thing I see wrong is that is a very odd shade of ORANGE!!!!!
How long did it take you to build it? I have been working on mine for 3 months or so and I just have to paint the bed and put everything back together!

i was wondering when someone would comment on the color. this was the 3rd weekend from starting the project from a pile of steel. i work out of town so i only get the weekends to do all the chores around the house. this took priority and i practically worked on it from the time i got up to the time i went to bed so it would prolly take me months if i only worked on it a few hours every weekend.

Awsome build,.. well You asked for feed back so ill give my thoughts, The axles, rims, and tires are not strong/big enough, and the hydraulic cylinder is too big, just an opinion, but it really sticks out to me, PLEASE, beef up the crossmember that you hooked the hydraulic cyl to ..or your gona f--- that up quick, otherwise i really like it, Eric

600 rider,
i live a town called lamar, its about 20 mins from state college. (penn state)

mrkubotakid,

thanks for the feed back, i had the same thoughts you did (after i had it all together of course :) ). as for the hydraulic cylinder, i based that off of the trailers they sell through northern hydraulics or tsc, for an identical cart they said to put a 4 inch bore cylinder under it, mine is just a 3.5 inch bore. as for the thought on the cross member, im gonna keep an eye on that, i have that short angled stiffener in there and my thoughts on that are when the bed is down its inline with the cylinder and when first dumping that is gonna be the hardest push but as the bed comes up the leverage changes and im hoping it will be strong enough. but you're right, and i am gonna keep a close eye on that to watch for any twisting.

We have camped at Ricketts Glenn and Black Mashanon and Bald Egale SP's and we have friends that live in McAlevys Fort. Last year we went to our first PSU football game!! A good one against Youngstown state.

That is a great build! I just used a neighbor's power dump and am convinced of their being a handy tool. As for that lift point, mrkubotakid's right. The torque on that connection is intense. Your welds look great, but the cross member wall will tear out. Easily solved by just adding another cross member directly over that pivot point. Higher tires will help make a higher pile, too. That is one of the down sides to them....dragging along until the bed is empty. Makes for a long pile rather than a tall one. For spreading stuff, that's great. For piling stuff, not so much.

Nice dumper Banditbooker. What is the size of the bed and sides? Also I see that you are using tractor hydraulics to power it. Do you have to stop the engine to disconnect and reconnect hydraulic lines to the tractor? I'm asking this because I intend to do the same thing.

thanks for the comments guys.

the inside of the bed measures 50" by 84" and the sides are 16" high. all 4 sides are removable like a stake bosy, you just slide them into pockets. i have it so when you slide the front part down it hooks over the 2 sides to keep them from swaying side to side muck and the tail gate is pinned in the back to do the same. and yes, i put the auxiliary hydraulics on the tractor myself following jimgerken and kennyd's post on this site. (thanks guys) and you do NOT have to shut the tractor off to hook or unhook the hydraulic lines.

thanks J J, the suspension is a type that uses no springs, its like one solid axle but the way it is designed is so if you went over a log or rock the left side tandems will rotate up and over independently from the right side tandems allowing all 4 tires to stay on the ground and support the weight. i have heard someone call it a walking axle before, but i don't know if that is correct or not. as for those hose clamps, they are the ones you have posted. i got them for my tractor and never used them so i figured the cart would be the perfect place for them. :D
