My experience with a paint gun ...not so good.

So your saying a gauge at the sprayer and then hook the air hose to it.

Yes, you should use a regualator and gauge at your gun. If you have another one at the compressor, it should be set wide open, as to not restrict the flow of air coming through the line. Regardless, the problem is with your gun. No amount of pressure should cause the gun to blow apart becasue the canister should not have ANY pressure in it. They are siphon or gravity feed.

Looks good (Hay Buddy).
Hard to tell in pic. Did you put that Hay Buddy on yourself ,was it a decal or template ?

I'm certainly no expert, but I have painted a few houses, a dune buggy, a couple of trailers, and some wooden fences with a one quart spray gun. I've owned and used some more expensive guns, but right now I have a cheap Campbell-Hausfeld from Walmart. I've always used a pressure regulator at the compressor, but I've never used one at the gun. I'm certainly not qualified to disagree with you, but I've never even seen anyone use a pressure regulator at the gun.

And while I have certainly seen the gravity feed guns, and I've seen guns that can be changed to and from siphon vs. pressure (even owned one such gun), my current gun manual clearly states "Comes from the factory as a pressure feed, . . .."

That would be because most people do it wrong

Yes, I'm sure they make some kind of pressure feed gun. Todays technology = gravity feed HVLP. With the cost of paint nowdays, it doesn't make sense to use anything else.

I use one of these at the HVLP gun.
125 PSI Air Flow Regulator with Gauge

Wedge

Thanks for the link.

Exactly. There should not be any pressure in your canister. If there is, I can't think of how it would be your fault. Go somewhere else and get your paint gun.

You could get one from Harbor Freight for about 20$, and it would proabably get the job done. The 50$ ones from hardware stores are no better, just more expensive. If you want to save yourself some trouble, get a Devilbiss Finishline or an Asturo/Walcom 9011. These are in the 120$ range, and are a great value.

Well I blew two of them ... same brand. Better get the gauge and a different gun.

This one has a metal tube in the handle and goes into the canister ... I assume its a siphon type.

Its a decal ... I started building the grapples and the accumulators ... been selling a few. Patent Pending of course !!

Well with 30K plus post and some experience I would listen to your advise right along with the others. I'm thinking of both another brand of gun and the regulator at the gun. Thats sounds like the government ... I'll have more than enough regulation!!!!

Like Bird, my cheap Campbel Hausfield is also pressure feed, and works ok. Has never blown up the canister though and just relies on the regulator on the tank.

yes, just for testing purposes. I just find it odd you would blowup the sprayer. I don't think its a surge thing since air is compressible not like oil.
Perhaps you might be the only one to have a bad batch.
If I were you, I go somewhere else.

Yes they are doing it wrong...get a whip 2' long and a regulator with gauge and use it just for painting. I have one I use just for greasing as well, sometimes you just have to make quick adjustments. As far as guns go, cheap gravity ones for most work, quality gravity gun for finish work.
