My experience with a paint gun ...not so good.

Here a picture of the second one ...

Seeing your picture jogged my memory a little. I have seen guns like that before...it is a pressure feed. I think they are mainly designed for spraying wood and stuff around the house, but I really don't know much about them. Like other people have said, you must have too much pressure at the gun to blow the cup like that.

On the other hand, you should consider getting a real gun. The difference will be significant!

I'd say you're lucky you didn't get hurt, that thing would take off like a rocket if the bottom or some little piece had failed.

Well I bought this type ... couldn't find that little regulator to put in the gun in small town ... so when I get to the big box store I'll get one of them.

That will definitely solve your pressure problem

From the picture, that gun appears to be just like the Harbor Freight models that sell for around $20. They work ok for equipment and that sort of thing. My big complaint on those kind of guns is the fan width is usually pretty narrow and they are pretty slow for over-all paint jobs. You shouldn't have a problem with painiting equipment that is made up of tubing, angle, etc. because a narrow fan is what you need in that case.

The directions say up to 9.5" pattern ... its a cheap one $30 bucks at Walmart ... but I already blew up a $40 something one!!!!!

Might also want to check that the tip has the right size aperture for the paint you are using - if it is too small with a thicker paint it could build up pressure. At least that is how it works for my big paint sprayer.

Chances are it is a 1.4 tip. If so it will be fine for tractor enamel as long as you use the proper amount of thinner. Let us know how it works and if you need help setting up the gun.

I will and thanks for the offer to set it up. I am using tractor paint from TSC ... thinning it with paint thinner under the scientific farmer method ... stir in the thinner and when it flows nicely off the stick ... Thats good.

Just how much thinner to a gallon of paint? I plan to put the regulator at the gun so I can know for sure he PSI ... whats a good setting for this gun?

When i use the tsc paint i mix it 5:1. For pressure set the reg on your compressor at 90 or higher and the one at your gun at whatever the instructions say. This should be done with the trigger fully pulled. Fan wide open. Fluid 2-3 turns off the seat. This will get you started but adjustments will be needed if you are getting peel or runs. Everyone sprays differently so noone could.set the gun perfectly for.you without being there.
