Last week I got the scratch coat done on the stucco. Tile set for the shower. Got some stucco done. Window trim mostly. Roughed in the plumbing for the dryer.

Sorry for your loss. I’m sure it was difficult to be there but I’m also sure it brought him great comfort. Continued good luck with the bathroom.

I'm 70, Dad passed 8 years ago and I miss him every day but still feel his presence. I believe you will too and he appreciates what you're doing.

My father passing really took the wind out of my sails. Nothing moving fast.

Vanity in, hooked up, functional. Washer/dryer in, plumbed. Vanity light in and on. Sink is a bit crooked on the vanity and didn't notice it until after I caulked it. So I have to re-do that. Need to find a stationary tub to her liking. The thermostat for the floor heat was DOA, so I returned it and of course there wasn't another one in stock, so I had to order it.

2 month anniversary of his passing today.

Went over to my mothers and did cleanup. Back porch was a mess, and spring is really coming so things need to get ready. She wants to learn how to weedwack and use hte mower. A few years ago I bought my father the ryobi 40v electric weedwacker, and then a cuople years ago a cub cadet zero turn. So the afternoon was spent teaching her how to use these things. Plus the differnet drills, bits, and batteries. My father had the craftsman 19v, ryobi 18v, black and decker 20v, and more recently i got him hte milwaukee m12 drill/driver because the others were getting heavy for him.

I used the kubota to fill in the pond, it had a leak and was draining out and left pond scum, which left a bad odor. So my mother asked me to come over and take care of it. While I was there she told me to come and smell something. She thought it was a sewage leak. But right away I recognized it as a propane leak. I go over to the propane tank on the house and smell for leaks, and nothing. So i go to the tank on the rv and shut it off, and wait a few minutes. Then i go and smell again, and nothing. rv system has a propane leak. It's off for now, but one more thing to deal with.

My father loved his kubota, but he had a bit of a "fix everything with a hammer" approach. When I turned on the tractor, the dash was dead. I had recently wired up flood lights on top of the cab for him so he could see at night. Apparently, he couldn't find hte switch and started clipping wires. No fuel gauge, no tach, no glow plug light, no oil pressure light, etc. Completely dead. But it started.

Lifted the bucket and I noticed a slight leak. Rammed the dirt pile and went to lift and hydraulic fluid gushed. A few years back he had a hydraulic leak on a hose. Old hose. I told him to take it off and take it to a shop I use and they'd make him a new one on the spot. And he did. But his re-assembly process, not so great. They're JIC fittings and one end is a swivel end and he apparently did hte swivel first, and then couldn't crank down the other end. So he used teflon tape. Then he somehow found a jic to jic adapter and fitted it on. Either way, I need to get it to the shop and break it all down and start from scratch.

I went through the garage, the shed, all his projects, one by one, for the first time with my mother. She broke down multiple times. It was hard. For her, and for me. This was everything he wanted to do. And he got cut short. I told my wife, if i ever give up, don't let me. Push through the pain, discomfort, and agony. Don't let me die, under any circumstance. I have **** to do.

I wish I was half the son you are. Blessings and peace upon you and yours.

Reading this story reminds me of the $50,000 I spent building a customized in-law suite for my MIL. It was 850 SF: Big bedroom, big family room, kitchen, bathroom and laundry room. HVAC, LED lighting, reverse osmosis water, all handicapped accessible. She moved in from our upstairs in-law suite to the new one downstairs and passed away in March 2023 after living there just 6 months.

It's nutty how houses are built without planning for how someone can actually live there when we get old and unable to use the stairs.

Having to deal with a parent's decline in health is plenty enough to deal with by itself. Undertaking a major remodel to make a home continue to be liveable in our old age, too, ....whew.

My brother passed away in October and it really hit hard seeing all of the things he was planning on doing, but never got done. I never really realized how smart he was, and sadly, none of his projects will ever happen now that he's gone.
