I know with my Brush mower I keep the clutch in and the engage the PTO. Then I release the clutch. I'm not sure what your doing but the shaft should turn real easy

Uh, are you seating in the seat when you engage the PTO? If not, push the seat forward. Safety switch????
My guess too :D

However, as soon as I engage the rear PTO handle, the tractor immediately stalls. I've tried it at full throttle and it still stalls and in low and med gears. I don't see anything binding, but I can't seem to move the shaft freely (by hand) when it's attached to the rear PTO but PTO not engaged... should it turn freely?

If you disconnect the shaft and engage the PTO does it still stall? I'm with TomC, guessing the safety switch is turning off the tractor as soon as you engage PTO.

You probably can't turn the shaft easily while it's attached to the tractor, but if you disconnect it the shaft should turn very freely.

Well... I wasn't in the seat when I was trying to engage the rear PTO. I wasn't aware of a safety switch and don't need to be in the seat to start it or operate loader. However, I'll try it again tomorrow in the seat.... hopefully it's that simple!

Thanks Mark thats exactly what I was looking to know and matches my operation.

After actually being in the seat when trying to engage the rear PTO, everything works fine. I was finally able to get out and mow today, thought you guys might like to see some pictures. Thanks everyone for their help, very happy with the results! I used to pay somebody $250 a pop for this, took me about 2 hours this morning after spending a few days figuring everything out.

You can see there is one rocky area I was unable to cut, that was the length of the growth across the entire field prior to mowing. The guy I used to hire used a skid steer with a front mount mower that could get much higher then my 3pt, I guess that is one advantage to the skid.

Gardner, upload your pics to a hosting site (such as Photobucket) and then add a direct link to your pic @ the hosting site. Hard to explain in a couple sentences, but if i can do it....... you sure as heck can figure it out!;)

Zolt .. FYI .. I can see in your pics that you have the top link still resting in its cradle when you have the cutter attached. This gizmo is for holding the top link when it is not attached to something so it doesn't flop around.

Looks like it is working really fine. Now go buy some paint and spray that baby and it will look just like new!
