My new tractor arrived yesterday! I didn't get to use it much since I'm focusing on finishing the shed for it that I'm building. It's definitely a big step up from the Ford 8N my dad had when I was growing up. I'll attach pictures below.

It's a Kubota L3800HST, LA524 Loader, QA bucket, and Land Pride 6' cutter with clutch.

I really debated on the 5' versus 6' cutter, but it seemed to go OK with what little cutting I did yesterday. I'll get back with a verdict on if I made the right choice after I've had some seat time.

Thanks all for the advice and postings that I've poured through.
Nathan

Congrats man! Fine rig.

Looks just like mine, except I have ag tires, a gear shift and 5' Land Pride mower. I love it!

I also live about an hour south of ya.

I also wanted a 6' mower, but didn't want the mower wider than the rear tire track. Does you mower hang out past the R-4 tires?

Bluegil,
Yes, the mower sticks out about ~6 inches on either side of the R4's. When I was moving around the lumber on the ground for the shed, I did catch one of the posts, so I can see how it would be an issue. I went with the bigger mower to cut down on brush cutting time, but I can see how I'll have to be careful around imovable objects.

Initially I started out looking at geared tractors, but I decided the wine of the HST was forgiveable as a tradeoff for ease with loader work and getting my wife to use the tractor, too.

While I'm thinking of it, I'd recommend Wayde's Equipment in Steeleville, MO. They were great to work with and patient with my multiple trips/test drives. They weren't the absolute rock-bottom price, but they were competetive.

Thanks for the info! I was wondering if R-4s' set out wider than the R-1s', but it looks like they don't. I have a 6' mower on our old, larger L3750 and will use it on the larger fields.

Congratulations on your new tractor !

I would have gone with the 6 footer also...... you can always take a smaller bite if it's working too hard.

As far as a dealer not having rock bottom prices...... it's certainly worth a few bucks to have a dealer that gives good service.
